The resolution source for this market will be information from the Hong Kong Observatory, specifically the "Absolute Daily Min (deg. C)" the specified date once information is finalized in the relevant "Daily Extract", available here: https://www.weather.gov.hk/en/cis/climat.htm This market can not resolve until data for this date has been published. The resolution source for this market measures temperatures in Celsius to one decimal place (eg, 9.1°C). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market. Any revisions to temperatures recorded after data is initially published for this market's timeframe will not be considered for this market's resolution.
Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect real-money trader positioning and often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts. While weather analysts issue deterministic point forecasts or ranges based on atmospheric models, prediction markets aggregate distributed expectations across many participants with financial incentives to be accurate. Market odds for the lowest temperature in Hong Kong on June 3 may price in tail risks, seasonal patterns, and climate anomalies differently than conventional models. Comparing the two approaches reveals whether traders are more bullish or bearish on extreme temperature outcomes than official forecasters.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, the lowest temperature in Hong Kong on June 3 is priced as a set of outcome contracts, each representing a specific temperature range or threshold. Traders buy and sell shares in outcomes they believe will occur, with prices reflecting the implied probability of each scenario. The market uses an automated market maker or order-book mechanism to determine pricing based on supply and demand. As new information emerges—seasonal forecasts, climate data, or real-time weather patterns—prices adjust to reflect updated trader expectations for the final recorded low temperature on that date.
The market resolves at Jun 3, 2026, after the close of June 3, 2026 in Hong Kong. Resolution is determined by the official lowest temperature recorded in Hong Kong on that calendar day. The outcome is typically sourced from a recognized meteorological authority or weather station network to ensure accuracy and prevent disputes. Once the final temperature is confirmed and published, the winning outcome contract is settled and traders receive payouts proportional to their positions. The resolution process is automated once the official data is available.
Several factors could shift market prices for the lowest temperature in Hong Kong on June 3. Major weather pattern changes—such as tropical cyclones, monsoon onset timing, or upper-atmosphere anomalies—can dramatically alter temperature expectations. Long-range seasonal forecasts from meteorological agencies may update as June approaches, influencing trader positioning. Real-time atmospheric data, sea-surface temperatures, and climate indices like the Southern Oscillation Index could trigger repricing. Additionally, historical temperature records for early June and any emerging climate anomalies specific to 2026 may prompt traders to adjust their bids and offers as new information becomes available.
