Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorologist forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior, historical weather patterns, and emerging data. While weather analysts publish point estimates and confidence intervals based on atmospheric models, this market aggregates the collective judgment of traders who have financial incentive to forecast accurately. Comparing the two reveals whether the crowd is pricing in more or less risk than official forecasts suggest. Both sources offer value: analysts provide scientific methodology, while prediction markets reflect dynamic market sentiment and can sometimes detect shifts faster than traditional forecasts update.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader positions into real-time odds. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders buy and sell shares corresponding to different temperature ranges, and the price of each outcome reflects the probability the market assigns to it. As new information arrives—updated weather models, seasonal patterns, or real-time atmospheric data—traders adjust their positions, moving prices accordingly. The continuous pricing mechanism ensures that odds remain responsive to changing conditions right up until the market closes.
This market resolves around Jul 13, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The highest temperature recorded in Taipei on July 13 will be compared against the outcome ranges offered in this market, and the corresponding outcome will be deemed correct. Traders who backed the accurate temperature band will receive their winnings. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the close, once official temperature data is published and verified.
Several factors can shift odds in this market: updated seasonal weather forecasts, tropical storm or typhoon warnings affecting the region, changes in atmospheric pressure systems, and real-time temperature readings as July 13 approaches. Major weather pattern shifts—such as an unexpected monsoon or heat dome—can trigger rapid repricing. Additionally, historical temperature records for that date and time-of-year comparisons may influence trader positioning. As the event date draws closer, intraday weather updates and satellite imagery often become the dominant price drivers, making the final hours particularly volatile.
