Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Taipei temperature forecast market dashboard tracks real-time odds and trading activity for the highest temperature expected in Taipei on July 10. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature outcomes, with the current leading outcome reflecting whether the high will reach 32°C. The dashboard displays live price movements, historical odds trends, and cumulative trading volume, giving participants a transparent view of how the market is pricing this specific weather event as new information emerges.

Prediction markets aggregate the collective judgment of many traders with real money at stake, often revealing insights that differ from traditional meteorological forecasts. While weather analysts rely on atmospheric models and historical data, this market reflects traders' beliefs about the actual outcome, incorporating their interpretation of those same models plus any additional signals they value. When odds diverge significantly from analyst consensus, it may indicate either market inefficiency or traders' confidence in information the broader forecast community has underweighted. Comparing the two perspectives can highlight where uncertainty is concentrated.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds through an automated market maker that adjusts prices based on buy and sell pressure. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share represents a claim on one outcome—for instance, whether the high temperature will be exactly 32°C—and the price of that share reflects the collective probability assigned by the market. As traders deposit capital and place orders, the price moves continuously, with higher prices indicating greater confidence in that outcome. This mechanism ensures prices remain responsive to new information and trader sentiment throughout the event window.

This market resolves around Jul 10, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Taipei for July 10 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing actual weather data against the temperature thresholds embedded in each outcome option. Traders who correctly predicted the final temperature receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the close of the trading window, pending confirmation of the official temperature reading.

Several factors could shift odds significantly before the market closes. Updated weather forecasts from meteorological agencies, particularly those showing changing atmospheric patterns or unexpected heat systems, often trigger sharp repricing. Real-time temperature readings from earlier in July 10 itself will provide concrete data that narrows uncertainty. Major weather events—such as tropical systems, sudden pressure changes, or unusual jet stream positioning—can dramatically alter expectations. Additionally, as the event date approaches, traders may adjust positions based on refined models, creating natural volatility that reflects improving information quality.
