Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Shenzhen temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for the highest temperature expected in Shenzhen on July 13. The interface displays current market sentiment through live pricing, along with 24-hour volume of $53,268 to show trader activity and liquidity depth. This market reflects collective forecasts from participants betting on whether the day's peak temperature will fall within specific ranges, updated continuously as new information and trading activity influence the odds throughout the prediction period.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader sentiment and financial incentives alongside expert models. While meteorologists rely on atmospheric data and historical patterns, this market aggregates the distributed knowledge of participants who profit from accurate predictions. Comparing the implied probability from current odds to published forecasts from weather agencies can reveal where the crowd sees upside or downside risk relative to official guidance, though both approaches aim to estimate the same underlying event.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader bets into real-time odds for each temperature outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Participants buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges, and the price of each share reflects the crowd's estimated probability of that outcome occurring. As trades flow in, the pricing mechanism adjusts continuously, ensuring the market remains responsive to new information and shifting expectations about Shenzhen's peak temperature on the event date.

This market resolves around Jul 13, 2026, once July 13 has passed and the highest temperature recorded in Shenzhen can be verified from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual peak temperature against the predefined ranges offered in this market, with winning shares paid out according to which bracket the final reading falls into. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the event, pending confirmation from reliable meteorological data.

Weather forecasts and model updates are the primary drivers of price movement in this market. Significant atmospheric patterns, seasonal anomalies, or unexpected climate events reported in the days leading up to July 13 can shift trader expectations and reshape odds. Real-time conditions on the day itself—cloud cover, humidity, wind patterns—may also influence late trading as participants refine their bets based on emerging meteorological data, causing the market to reprice in response to fresh information closer to the resolution date.
