Prediction markets aggregate the views of many traders with real money at stake, often producing forecasts that differ from traditional meteorological models or analyst consensus. While weather agencies publish deterministic forecasts and confidence intervals, this market reflects traders' probabilistic bets on the actual high temperature. Comparing the implied odds here to official weather bureau statements for Qingdao can reveal where the market is pricing in additional uncertainty or confidence. Both sources are valuable: analysts provide technical modeling, while markets reveal how traders weigh competing scenarios.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker or order-book system. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature range outcome has its own price, expressed as a probability between 0 and 100 percent. When you buy shares at a given price, you're betting that outcome will occur; selling lets you lock in gains or cut losses. The spread between bid and ask prices reflects market liquidity and uncertainty around the exact high temperature on that day.
This market resolves around Jul 5, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Qingdao for July 5 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing actual meteorological data against the temperature ranges defined in the market's outcome categories. Traders holding shares in the correct range receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours or days after the event, depending on data availability and platform confirmation.
Weather model updates and forecasts from meteorological agencies are the primary drivers of price movement in this market. Additionally, any major weather alerts or warnings issued by Chinese meteorological authorities may shift market odds as traders adjust their expectations for the day's high temperature.
