Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather forecasts and analyst models because they incorporate real-time information and trader incentives. While meteorologists rely on atmospheric models and historical data, this market reflects the aggregated judgment of participants with financial stakes in the outcome. Traders may price in factors that formal forecasts downweight, such as recent climate patterns or localized urban heat effects. Comparing market odds to published analyst predictions can reveal where consensus breaks down and highlight which forecasts the crowd finds most credible or uncertain.

On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling shares that represent different temperature outcomes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share pays out based on whether the actual highest temperature matches the specified range or threshold. The market price reflects the probability traders assign to each outcome, with higher prices indicating greater confidence. Resolution occurs after the event has concluded and the data is confirmed, ensuring accuracy and preventing disputes. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome receive their payout once the market settles.

Several factors could shift odds in this market before resolution. Updated weather forecasts from meteorological agencies may trigger repricing if models show significant changes to expected conditions. Seasonal climate patterns, El Niño or La Niña activity, and historical temperature anomalies can influence trader expectations. Real-time atmospheric developments, such as unexpected pressure systems or moisture patterns, may prompt rapid position adjustments. Additionally, major weather events in nearby regions or shifts in long-range forecasts could alter market sentiment. Traders continuously monitor these signals to adjust their bets on the final temperature outcome.
