This market will resolve to the temperature range that contains the highest temperature recorded by the Hong Kong Observatory in degrees Celsius on 8 Jun '26. The resolution source for this market will be information from the Hong Kong Observatory, specifically the "Absolute Daily Max (deg. C)" the specified date once information is finalized in the relevant "Daily Extract", available here: https://www.weather.gov.hk/en/cis/climat.htm This market can not resolve until data for this date has been published. The resolution source for this market measures temperatures in Celsius to one decimal place (eg, 9.1°C). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market. Any revisions to temperatures recorded after data is initially published for this market's timeframe will not be considered for this market's resolution.
Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect aggregated trader expectations and often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts. While weather agencies publish deterministic high-temperature predictions based on atmospheric models, prediction markets incorporate real-time betting activity, historical accuracy data, and trader conviction. Markets may price in tail-risk scenarios or consensus shifts faster than official updates. Comparing Polymarket implied probabilities to published forecasts from Hong Kong Observatory or regional meteorologists reveals whether traders are pricing in more or less extreme outcomes than expert models suggest.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, the highest temperature in Hong Kong on June 8 is priced as a set of outcome contracts, each representing a specific temperature range or threshold. Traders buy and sell shares corresponding to their belief about which range will occur. The price of each contract reflects the market's implied probability; higher prices indicate greater confidence in that outcome. Liquidity and order-book depth vary by outcome. As June 8 approaches and real-time weather data updates, prices adjust dynamically based on new information and trading flow.
The market resolves on Jun 8, 2026, after the highest temperature recorded in Hong Kong on June 8 is finalized. Resolution is determined by the official recorded high temperature for that date. Traders should monitor official meteorological data sources as June 8 progresses to understand which outcome bracket the actual temperature will fall into. Once the day concludes and the final high is confirmed, the market settles based on the outcome that matches the recorded temperature.
Several factors can shift odds for Hong Kong's June 8 high temperature. Major weather pattern changes—such as tropical cyclone formation, monsoon onset timing, or upper-level atmospheric blocking—can alter seasonal temperature expectations. Updated meteorological model runs and official forecasts released closer to June 8 will influence trader positioning. Real-time atmospheric conditions in early June, including sea-surface temperatures and regional pressure systems, drive repricing. Additionally, historical analogues and anomalies in late May weather can signal whether June 8 will be hotter or cooler than climatological norms, prompting market adjustments.
