Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect real-money consensus from traders and often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts. While weather analysts issue deterministic point estimates or narrow ranges, prediction markets aggregate distributed beliefs across many participants with financial incentives to be accurate. Comparing Polymarket implied probabilities to official forecasts from China's meteorological authority or international weather models can reveal where traders see asymmetric risk. Markets may price in tail scenarios or uncertainty that traditional forecasts downplay, offering a complementary perspective on June 1 temperature outcomes in Guangzhou.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, the highest temperature in Guangzhou on June 1 is priced through outcome tokens that traders buy and sell to express their beliefs. Each temperature bracket or specific outcome has a price reflecting its implied probability. As traders update their views based on seasonal patterns, atmospheric models, and real-time weather data, prices adjust continuously. The market uses an automated market maker or order-book mechanism to determine prices, with higher prices indicating greater confidence in that outcome. Liquidity and trading volume influence how efficiently prices respond to new information.
The market resolves on Jun 1, 2026, after June 1 has concluded and the actual highest temperature in Guangzhou is recorded. Resolution depends on official meteorological data from a designated source, typically China's national weather service or a recognized regional authority. The recorded peak temperature for that calendar day determines which outcome bracket or specific value wins. Markets remain open for trading until the resolution deadline, allowing participants to adjust positions based on forecasts and real-time conditions as June 1 approaches.
Several factors can shift odds for Guangzhou's peak temperature on June 1. Seasonal monsoon patterns and atmospheric pressure systems developing over East Asia will influence trader expectations. Updated numerical weather models from meteorological agencies, released regularly in the weeks before June 1, often trigger significant repricing. Urban heat island effects and local pollution levels can affect actual temperatures. Major weather events like tropical cyclones or unusual jet-stream configurations may prompt rapid market moves. As June 1 approaches, real-time satellite imagery and short-range forecasts become more reliable, typically narrowing the range of plausible outcomes and concentrating trading volume around the most likely temperature bands.
