Prediction market odds reflect real-money trader conviction and often diverge from traditional weather forecasts. While meteorologists issue probabilistic temperature ranges based on atmospheric models, this market distills trader expectations into a single binary outcome. Comparing the current implied probability to seasonal climate data and official forecasts from China's meteorological agencies can reveal whether the market is pricing in more or less risk than experts expect. Such gaps often signal either informed trading or temporary mispricings worth monitoring.
This market resolves around Jul 7, 2026, once the event date has passed and the highest temperature recorded in Chongqing on July 7 can be verified. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual peak temperature to the 36°C threshold specified in the market. Once credible public reporting confirms the final temperature reading, the market settles automatically, with correct predictions paid out and incorrect ones expiring worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the market close time.
Updated weather forecasts and seasonal climate models are the primary drivers of price movement in this market. Major atmospheric patterns—monsoon activity, heat waves, or unexpected cold fronts—can shift trader expectations significantly. Real-time meteorological data, including satellite imagery and atmospheric pressure readings, will influence positioning as July 7 approaches. Additionally, historical temperature records for Chongqing on that date and broader regional heat trends may prompt traders to reassess their bets. Late-breaking model runs in the days immediately before the event typically trigger the most volatile trading.
