Frequently asked questions

The Atlanta temperature prediction market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and trading activity for contracts tied to the highest temperature recorded in Atlanta on July 10. Traders buy and sell shares based on their forecasts, with prices reflecting the collective probability assigned to different temperature ranges. The dashboard displays current odds, historical price movement, and recent trading volume, giving participants a live view of how the market is pricing various outcomes as new information emerges.

Prediction market odds and traditional analyst forecasts often diverge because they operate on different incentives. Traders in this market have direct financial exposure to their predictions, which can sharpen accuracy but also introduce bias toward recent data or sentiment. Meteorologists and climate analysts rely on physics-based models and historical patterns, which may lag real-time market information. Comparing the implied probability from this market against published forecasts from the National Weather Service or local meteorologists can reveal whether traders are pricing in factors analysts have not yet emphasized or vice versa.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader activity into real-time odds. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Participants buy shares representing different temperature outcomes—such as whether the high will fall between 96–97°F—and the price of each share reflects its implied probability. As more traders buy or sell a particular outcome, the price adjusts, incentivizing arbitrage and discovery of the true consensus forecast. The current leading outcome reflects the strongest trader conviction at any given moment.

This market resolves around Jul 10, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Atlanta on July 10 is finalized and verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the official temperature reading against the contract's specified range or threshold. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the market end date, after meteorological data has been confirmed and published by authoritative weather agencies. Traders should monitor official announcements to understand exactly when and how the winning outcome will be declared.

Several factors can shift odds in this market before it closes. Updated weather forecasts from the National Weather Service, changes in atmospheric patterns, or unexpected heat waves can prompt traders to reprrice their positions. Real-time temperature readings in the days leading up to July 10 provide concrete data that may confirm or contradict earlier predictions. Major weather events—such as a cold front or high-pressure system—can also trigger rapid repricing. News coverage of extreme heat or cooling trends may influence trader sentiment and drive volume toward specific outcomes.
