This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Hang Seng Index closing price for Hang Seng (HSI) on Monday, October 12, 2026 is higher than the official Hang Seng Index closing price for HSI on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Hang Seng Index closing price for Hang Seng (HSI) on Monday, October 12, 2026 is lower than the official Hang Seng Index closing price for HSI on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If HSI does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Hang Seng Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Currently, prediction market odds offer a distinct perspective compared to traditional analyst forecasts for the Hang Seng. While analysts often provide point estimates or ranges, this market aggregates the wisdom of the crowd, expressing beliefs as probabilities. Discrepancies can arise due to differing methodologies and information access. If analysts are largely bullish, we might see higher probabilities assigned to an ‘Up’ outcome here, but significant divergence could signal the market perceives risks or opportunities not fully captured in conventional analysis. It's valuable to consider both viewpoints when forming your own assessment.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell contracts representing their belief about whether the Hang Seng will close up or down on October 12th. The price of these contracts directly reflects the probability of each outcome, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy contracts predicting an ‘Up’ move, the price increases, and the implied probability of that outcome rises. Conversely, increased selling pressure on ‘Up’ contracts lowers the price and probability. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of participants.
This market resolves around Oct 12, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the closing price of the Hang Seng Index on October 12th will be used to determine whether the market settles as ‘Up’ or ‘Down’. The direction will be based on whether the closing price is higher or lower than the opening price on the same day. This provides a clear and objective basis for determining the result of this market, ensuring a transparent resolution process.
Several signals or events could significantly move this market before Oct 12, 2026. Major economic data releases from China, such as GDP growth, inflation figures, or manufacturing indices, could influence investor sentiment and shift probabilities. Geopolitical developments, particularly those affecting China or global trade, are also potential catalysts. Unexpected corporate earnings reports from key Hang Seng constituents could also trigger price movements. Finally, any significant policy announcements from the Chinese government or the Hong Kong Monetary Authority could impact market direction and alter the odds in this market.
