This market will resolve to “Yes” if GitHub.com experiences an incident with an impact classified as “critical” between market creation and the listed date, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No.” An incident will qualify if the official GitHub Status Page (githubstatus.com) or the official GitHub Status API (githubstatus.com/api) classifies the incident's impact as "critical," unless its affected components, once the incident is marked "Resolved," consist solely of Copilot and/or Copilot AI Model Providers. Incidents listing no affected components will qualify. GitHub classifies incident impact as None, Minor, Major, or Critical; only Critical will qualify. Component status labels (e.g. "Degraded Performance," "Partial Outage," or "Major Outage") will have no bearing on this market absent a qualifying critical incident. Revisions published after an incident is marked “Resolved” will not be considered. If an incident that began before 11:59 PM ET on the listed date remains unresolved at that time, this market will remain open and resolve at the earlier of: (i) when the incident is officially resolved, or (ii) the end of the seventh calendar day (ET) after the listed date, at which point the market will resolve based on the official information available at that time. Incidents whose affected components, once the incident is marked "Resolved," consist solely of Copilot and/or Copilot AI Model Providers will not qualify. Scheduled maintenance will not qualify. The primary resolution source for this market will be official GitHub system-status information published at https://www.githubstatus.com/, including the official GitHub Status API (https://www.githubstatus.com/api); however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.

Currently, assessing how prediction market odds align with analyst forecasts requires looking at external sources and expert opinions regarding the potential for a significant GitHub outage. While analysts may offer qualitative assessments of risk, this market provides a quantitative measure of collective belief. Discrepancies between the two could indicate areas where the market perceives information differently than traditional analysis, or where the market is incorporating factors not yet considered by analysts. It’s important to note that this market reflects the wisdom of the crowd, aggregating diverse perspectives on the event’s probability.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in different outcomes. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the prices adjust, providing a dynamic assessment of the situation. The market’s price movements are driven by supply and demand, with higher demand for a particular outcome pushing its price up and vice versa. This creates a real-time, market-driven forecast.
This market resolves around Nov 1, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution will be based on whether a critical incident impacting GitHub’s core services occurred within a defined timeframe, and the primary cause of that incident. The specific details of what constitutes a ‘critical incident’ are defined within the market’s rules on Polymarket. Traders should review those rules for a complete understanding of the resolution conditions, as they will determine how this market settles.
Several signals could significantly impact this market. Any official announcements from GitHub regarding system vulnerabilities, security breaches, or planned maintenance could shift trader sentiment. Reports of widespread service disruptions or performance degradation, even if not officially classified as a critical incident, could also move the market. Unexpected news regarding the stability of GitHub’s infrastructure providers or the emergence of new cybersecurity threats are additional catalysts. Increased media attention or discussions within the developer community about GitHub's reliability could also influence trading activity in this market.
