Resolves Nov 2, 2026
$
This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for Dow Jones (DJIA) on Monday, November 2, 2026 is higher than the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for DJIA on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for Dow Jones (DJIA) on Monday, November 2, 2026 is lower than the official Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price for DJIA on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If DJIA does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Dow Jones Industrial Average for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Currently, prediction market odds represent a collective forecast of whether the Dow Jones will close up or down. These odds often differ from traditional analyst forecasts, as they reflect the wisdom of the crowd and incorporate a wider range of information and perspectives. While some analysts may predict an upward trend, this market may show a different expectation based on real-time trading activity. It's important to note that prediction markets are not always in agreement with conventional wisdom, and can sometimes provide contrarian signals.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief about the Dow Jones’s direction. The price of these shares directly reflects the probability of the ‘Up’ outcome, with the price of ‘Down’ shares being 1 minus the ‘Up’ price. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price adjusts dynamically based on supply and demand, meaning that significant news or events can quickly shift the odds as traders react and update their positions.
This market resolves around Nov 2, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the resolution will be based on whether the Dow Jones Industrial Average closes higher or lower than its opening value on November 2. The final closing value will be sourced from established financial data providers and will be the definitive factor in determining the winning outcome of this market. Traders will be able to claim their winnings based on the final result.
Several signals and events could significantly impact this market. Major economic data releases, such as employment reports or inflation figures, could influence investor sentiment and shift the odds. Unexpected geopolitical events or shifts in monetary policy by the Federal Reserve could also cause substantial movement. Furthermore, earnings reports from major Dow Jones component companies and any significant news related to corporate performance or industry trends are likely to affect trading activity and the overall price of this market.
