This event tracks whether Denver experiences a specific number of consecutive days above 90°F during a week in 2026. The outcome depends on daily temperature averages measured at a specific weather station, with strict criteria for data validity and consecutive day counting.
The event resolves to Yes if, within the period September 14, 2026 through September 20, 2026, there are at least 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 consecutive days on which the daily average temperature at KDEN in Denver strictly exceeds 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The daily average temperature is calculated as the arithmetic mean of hourly temperature values reported by The Weather Company from 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM local time, rounded to the nearest whole degree. Only days within the specified period may count toward a streak. A day with an average of exactly 90 degrees Fahrenheit does not satisfy the condition, and any day with fewer than 18 reported hourly values breaks the streak. Data as published at the Expiration Time will be used, with later revisions disregarded.
Comparing prediction market probabilities to those from traditional weather analysts reveals how collective intelligence assesses the chance of this specific heatwave. Currently, forecasts from meteorological sources predict a moderate probability of sustained high temperatures in Denver that week. However, this market allows traders to incorporate a wider range of factors – including long-range models, economic impacts, and even potential climate anomalies – potentially leading to a different assessment than standard forecasts. It’s a fascinating way to see if the ‘wisdom of the crowd’ aligns with expert opinion.
On Kalshi, this market is priced using a continuous double auction, meaning traders buy and sell contracts representing different probabilities of the event occurring. The price of a contract reflects the market’s current belief about the likelihood of consecutive 90°F+ days in Denver during the specified week. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts to reflect the evolving consensus. Higher prices indicate a greater perceived chance of the event happening, while lower prices suggest a lower probability.
This market resolves around Sep 22, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the average daily high temperature in Denver for each day of the week of September 14, 2026 will be assessed. If consecutive days reach or exceed 90°F, the market will settle in favor of ‘yes’; otherwise, it will settle in favor of ‘no’. The resolution will be based on official temperature data from a recognized meteorological source.
Several factors could significantly influence trading activity in this market. Long-range weather forecasts released over the next two years will be closely watched, particularly those predicting above-average temperatures for the region. Major climate events, such as El Niño or La Niña patterns, could also shift expectations. Additionally, any news regarding changes in atmospheric conditions or unusual weather patterns in the months leading up to September 2026 could cause the price to fluctuate as traders react to new information and adjust their assessments.
