This market will resolve to "Yes" if a confirmed case of pneumonic plague in a human is reported in the Russian Federation at any point between market creation and the specified date, 11:59 PM Moscow time, . Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". A "confirmed case" is a case explicitly identified by a qualifying source as laboratory-confirmed Yersinia pestis infection with pneumonic (pulmonary) involvement, or explicitly announced as a confirmed pneumonic plague case. Publication of the underlying laboratory results is not required. A bubonic or septicemic case that progresses to pneumonic plague qualifies. A case reported only as "plague" with no form specified, and a case described only as suspected or probable, do not qualify. The case must be distinct from the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Research Institute employee who reportedly passed away on October 1, 2026; subsequent confirmation, reclassification, or post-mortem testing of that patient will not qualify. Resolution turns on the date a qualifying source publishes the confirmation, not the date of exposure, symptom onset, or laboratory result. A report published after the deadline does not count even if the infection occurred earlier. The primary resolution sources for this market will be official information from Russian federal or regional public health authorities and the WHO; however a consensus of credible sources will also suffice.

Currently, assessing how prediction market odds compare to analyst forecasts requires looking at the broader question of whether a confirmed pneumonic plague case will occur in Russia. While traditional analysts may offer qualitative assessments of risk based on epidemiological models and public health reports, this market provides a quantitative, real-time view of collective belief. Discrepancies between the market’s implied probability and expert opinions could highlight areas of disagreement or differing levels of confidence regarding the potential for an outbreak. It’s important to remember that this market reflects the wisdom of the crowd, incorporating a wide range of information and perspectives.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous double auction, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief about the likelihood of a confirmed pneumonic plague case in Russia. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of the event occurring. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and is influenced by news reports, public health announcements, and overall risk sentiment.
This market resolves around Nov 1, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, resolution will depend on confirmation from a recognized public health authority – such as the World Health Organization or a national health agency – of a pneumonic plague case in Russia. The determination will be based on officially reported data and evidence, ensuring a transparent and objective assessment. The market will then settle based on whether such confirmation has occurred by the resolution date.
Several signals or events could significantly move this market. Any official reports of suspected or confirmed plague cases in Russia would be a primary driver, particularly if issued by a reputable health organization. Changes in travel advisories or public health restrictions implemented by the Russian government could also influence trading activity. Broader news related to disease outbreaks globally, or advancements in plague treatment and prevention, might also impact the market. Finally, any statements from leading epidemiologists or public health experts regarding the risk of a plague outbreak in Russia could shift traders’ perceptions and affect the price.
