This set of markets tracks the precise closing price of Brent crude oil at a specific moment in the future. Each market has a different threshold price, allowing participants to speculate on whether the oil price will exceed various levels at that exact time.
All markets resolve based on the closing price of the 1-minute candlestick for Brent crude oil on October 16, 2026 at 5:00 PM EDT. A market resolves to 'Yes' if the closing price exceeds the specified threshold for that market. The settlement value is rounded to the nearest two decimal places. The closing price for the 1-minute candlestick at 5:00 PM EDT is defined as the price at the end of the immediately preceding one-minute interval (i.e., the candlestick timestamped 4:59 PM, which reflects trading from 4:59:00 PM to 4:59:59 PM and closes at 5:00:00 PM). If data for the specified time is unavailable, the most recently published data will be used to determine the resolution.
Currently, prediction market odds often reflect a different perspective than traditional analyst forecasts. While analysts frequently rely on econometric models and geopolitical assessments, this market incorporates a broader range of information and collective intelligence from a diverse group of traders. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially when unexpected events occur or when there is significant uncertainty surrounding future conditions. Examining these differences can provide valuable insights into the range of possible outcomes and the relative confidence in each scenario, offering a unique perspective beyond standard financial analysis.
On Kalshi, this market is priced using a continuous double auction, where traders buy and sell contracts representing different price outcomes. The price of each contract fluctuates based on supply and demand, reflecting the collective belief of traders about the likelihood of that outcome occurring. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This means that as more traders believe a particular price is likely, the price of the corresponding contract will increase, and vice versa. The market efficiently aggregates information and translates it into a real-time probability distribution, allowing participants to express their views and profit from accurate predictions.
This market resolves around Oct 16, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the price of Brent crude oil at 5:00 PM EDT on October 16, 2026, is verifiable from credible public reporting. The final price will be sourced from a widely recognized and authoritative source for commodity pricing data. The market will then pay out to traders who correctly predicted the price range, based on the contracts they held at the time of resolution. This ensures a transparent and objective determination of the outcome, based on real-world data.
Numerous signals and events could significantly move this market over the next two years. Geopolitical instability in major oil-producing regions, such as the Middle East, is a key factor. Unexpected changes in global economic growth, particularly in China and the United States, could also impact demand. Furthermore, decisions by OPEC+ regarding production levels, major technological breakthroughs in energy production (like advancements in renewable energy or shale oil extraction), and even severe weather events disrupting oil infrastructure all have the potential to cause substantial price fluctuations and shifts in trading activity within this market.
