Description

This market will resolve to “Yes” if Epoch AI marks at least one additional FrontierMath: Open Problems problem as “Solved,” or otherwise officially states that such a problem has been solved, between market creation and the specified date 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No.” Any problems that Epoch AI already classified as solved before market issuance will not qualify for resolution. Only problems newly classified by Epoch AI as solved after market issuance may qualify. If Epoch AI adds new problems to FrontierMath: Open Problems after market creation, those problems will be considered for resolution. This market will resolve solely based on Epoch AI’s classification or official determination that a qualifying problem has been solved, regardless of the degree of artificial intelligence involvement. A verifier-accepted submission, publicly posted solution, partial result, or third-party claim will not qualify on its own unless Epoch AI recognizes the problem as solved. The primary resolution source will be official information from Epoch AI, including https://epoch.ai/frontiermath/open-problems.

Comparing prediction market odds to analyst forecasts reveals interesting insights into collective intelligence versus expert opinion. Often, this market reflects a broader range of information and perspectives than traditional forecasts, potentially leading to more accurate predictions. However, it’s important to remember that prediction markets are influenced by factors beyond pure analysis, such as media attention and speculative trading. The current pricing in this market may differ from initial expert assessments, as traders continuously update their beliefs based on new information and developments.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of different outcomes. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders adjust their bids and asks based on their own research, news, and interpretations of available information, creating a dynamic pricing environment. This process effectively aggregates the wisdom of the crowd, resulting in a real-time assessment of the potential resolution of the frontier math problem.

This market resolves around Nov 1, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution will depend on whether a solution to the specified frontier math problem has been demonstrably and publicly verified by the relevant mathematical community. The exact details of verification will be based on established standards within the field, ensuring a transparent and objective assessment. Traders should monitor news and publications related to mathematical breakthroughs leading up to the resolution date.

Several signals or events could significantly move this market. A credible announcement of substantial progress towards solving the problem by a leading researcher or institution would likely increase the odds of a positive outcome. Conversely, reports of setbacks or fundamental challenges could decrease those odds. Increased media coverage or public discussion of the problem could also drive trading activity and price fluctuations. Unexpected developments in related fields of mathematics or computing could also influence traders’ perceptions and impact the market’s pricing.
