This is a market on whether any crypto project or exchange suffers an exploit or hack of value at least $100 million USD equivalent between the creation of this market and 11:59 PM ET on the date specified in the title. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No.” Decentralized exchanges and lending protocol hacks will count. If a potentially qualifying hack has occurred within market timeframe, but the market’s resolution source has not been updated as of the market’s specified end date, the market may remain open for up to 7 calendar days ET allowing for an update. If no update occurs, the market will resolve according to the data already available. The primary resolution source for this market will be the Rekt News leaderboard (https://rekt.news/leaderboard/), however a credible consensus of reporting may also be used.

Currently, prediction market odds offer a unique perspective compared to traditional expectations surrounding cryptocurrency security. While analysts often focus on vulnerability assessments and preventative measures, this market directly reflects the collective belief of traders regarding the likelihood of a successful, large-scale hack. The implied probability derived from this market can be a valuable counterpoint to expert opinions, providing a more immediate and financially-driven assessment of risk. It’s a way to gauge the market’s confidence – or lack thereof – in the security of crypto assets.
On Polymarket, this market is priced using a continuous double auction, meaning traders buy and sell shares representing their belief about whether a crypto hack exceeding $100 million will occur. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, creating an implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing mechanism allows the market to rapidly incorporate new information and adjust its assessment of the risk. The current price reflects the aggregated wisdom of the crowd participating in this market.
This market resolves around Jan 1, 2027, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the resolution will depend on whether a publicly reported cryptocurrency hack exceeding $100 million in value has occurred before the resolution date. The determination will be based on widely accepted sources of information within the cryptocurrency industry, ensuring a transparent and objective assessment of the event. This provides a clear timeframe for settlement and a defined condition for determining the market’s outcome.
Several factors could significantly influence this market before Jan 1, 2027. A major security breach at a prominent cryptocurrency exchange or protocol would likely cause a substantial increase in the ‘yes’ probability. Conversely, announcements of significant security upgrades or successful preventative measures by major players in the crypto space could push the odds lower. Regulatory actions related to cryptocurrency security, or reports of increased law enforcement efforts targeting hackers, could also impact trading activity and shift the market’s assessment of risk. News regarding vulnerabilities in popular smart contracts would also be a key signal.
