Spotify releases an annual report of its most streamed song (see: https://newsroom.spotify.com/2025-12-03/wrapped-top-artists-songs-albums-podcasts-audiobooks/). This market refers to the most streamed Spotify song globally for 2026. This market will resolve according to the name of the song listed by Spotify as the #2 song of 2026. The named songs will be primarily ranked by chart ranking. If two or more songs are tied on chart ranking, ties will be broken by alphabetical order of the songs' listed titles. This market will resolve to the song that occupies the second-highest finishing position after applying this ranking. If Spotify does not release who their #2 song for 2026 is by January 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "Other". The resolution source for this market will be official information from Spotify, typically released as part of Spotify Wrapped. Note: This market and these products have not been endorsed by Spotify. Any references to Spotify, Spotify charts, streaming data, or any associated marks are descriptive only and do not indicate an endorsement of this product or any affiliation between Spotify and Polymarket. Currently, it's difficult to directly compare prediction market odds to traditional analyst forecasts for music popularity. Unlike political or economic events where experts regularly publish predictions, forecasting the top song of the year is largely subjective and driven by cultural trends. However, observing how this market reacts to song releases, streaming numbers, and critical reception can offer a unique perspective on potential hits, potentially diverging from initial industry expectations. It’s a real-time assessment of what listeners believe will be the biggest song.
On Polymarket, this market is priced using a continuous double auction. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in a particular song becoming the top song of 2026. The price of each share reflects the market’s collective probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares of a song, its price increases, indicating a higher perceived chance of success. Conversely, selling pressure lowers the price. This dynamic pricing mechanism allows the market to quickly adapt to new information and changing sentiment.
This market resolves around Feb 1, 2027, with the outcome confirmed once the official Spotify year-end charts are published and the top song for 2026 is verifiable from credible public reporting. The market will reflect the song that Spotify officially designates as the most streamed song globally for the calendar year. This resolution is based on publicly available data from Spotify and doesn’t rely on subjective interpretation or external judgment. The final price of shares will reflect the accuracy of predictions made throughout the year.
Several factors could significantly impact this market. Major song releases from popular artists, viral trends on platforms like TikTok, and critical acclaim from music publications can all shift the odds. Unexpected collaborations or controversies surrounding artists could also play a role. Streaming numbers, particularly in the months leading up to the end of the year, will be a key indicator. Any event that substantially alters public perception of a song’s popularity has the potential to move this market, creating opportunities for informed traders.
