Intro

This market tracks whether Brazil's Workers' Party will formally nominate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as its presidential candidate by the August 15, 2026 filing deadline. On Polymarket, the probability stands at 78.5%. Resolution will be determined by official filings with Brazil's Superior Electoral Court (TSE) or credible reporting consensus. Polymarket

The 2026 Brazil presidential election is currently scheduled to be held on October 4, 2026. Political parties must file candidate registration applications with the Superior Electoral Court (Tribunal Superior Eleitoral, TSE) for the 2026 Brazil presidential election by August 15, 2026, 7:00 PM Brasília time (UTC−03:00). This market will resolve to "Yes" if the Workers’ Party (Partido dos Trabalhadores, PT) files a candidate registration application nominating Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for President of Brazil by August 15, 2026, 7:00 PM Brasília time (UTC−03:00). Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. A filing by a coalition (coligação) or party federation (federação partidária) that includes the PT and names Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as its presidential candidate will also qualify. This market will resolve based on the filing date (Data de Autuação) of an applicable Application for Registration of Candidacy (Requerimento de Registro de Candidatura, RRC). An Application for Registration of Individual Candidacy (Requerimento de Registro de Candidatura Individual, RRCI) will not qualify for resolution of this market. The primary resolution source will be official filings from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE); however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.

This market resolves on Aug 15, 2026, at which point the outcome will be determined based on whether the Workers' Party has formally nominated Lula as its presidential candidate. The resolution hinges on official party announcements and documented nomination proceedings. Traders should monitor Workers' Party conventions, leadership statements, and Brazilian electoral authority filings as the deadline approaches. Any formal nomination by the party before the end date would trigger a YES resolution, while failure to nominate Lula would result in NO.

Key catalysts include Lula's public health updates, statements from Workers' Party leadership about their 2026 nominee, internal party votes or conventions, and broader Brazilian political developments. Announcements that Lula will or will not run would sharply move odds. Party infighting, rival candidate endorsements, or polling showing Lula's electoral viability could shift trader expectations. International or domestic economic crises affecting Lula's popularity, legal challenges, or surprise party leadership changes would also trigger repricing. Media coverage of party strategy sessions and candidate vetting processes will likely influence market sentiment as August 15 approaches.
