Description

This market will resolve to “Yes” if, according to the ISW map, Russia captures the railroad station (50.335310° N, 36.195107° E) located in Kozacha Lopan, Kharkiv Oblast, by the specified date, 11:59 PM ET. The train station will be considered captured if any part of the icon is shaded red on the ISW map (https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/36a7f6a6f5a9448496de641cf64bd375) by the resolution date. If the area is not shaded red by the specified date, the market will resolve to “No”. For any change on the ISW map to qualify for this market’s resolution, the relevant shading indicating Russian control must persist through the next full ISW daily update cycle. If ISW skips a day, shading must persist until the next finalized ISW update is published, regardless of the date. Any continuous shading which reflects either “Assessed Russian Control”, “Assessed Russian Advance In Ukraine”, or “Assessed Russian Gains in the Past 24 Hours” will qualify. “Assessed Russian Infiltration Areas in Ukraine” will not qualify. If Russia comes into control of this territory as a result of a negotiated settlement, this will qualify for a 'Yes' resolution, regardless of whether it is shaded red in the ISW map. An announcement of a negotiated settlement that gives Russia de jure control will not qualify. Actual control must be established. Once Russia captures the railroad station, any subsequent loss of control will not be considered towards the resolution of this market. If the ISW map is rendered unavailable, information from DeepStateMap (https://deepstatemap.live/) may be used. If information from both the ISW and DeepStateMap are rendered permanently unavailable, a consensus of credible reporting may be used. Note: Any temporary glitches or errors in the map will not be considered.

Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Kozacha Lopan capture market dashboard displays real-time odds and historical price movements for this geopolitical event. Traders monitor shifts in probability as new developments emerge, with volume data reflecting the level of interest and capital deployed. The interface shows how market participants are pricing the likelihood of Russian territorial control over this location, updated continuously as new information surfaces and positions change hands throughout the trading day.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts because they aggregate real-money bets from diverse participants rather than relying on expert opinion alone. This market reflects the collective assessment of traders who have financial incentives to forecast accurately. While analysts may publish point estimates based on military assessments or geopolitical models, prediction markets incorporate continuous updates and broader information flows, sometimes leading to materially different probability assessments for the same outcome.

On Polymarket, traders set prices through an automated market maker mechanism, where buying and selling pressure directly determines the odds. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome is represented as a contract, and the price of each reflects the marginal probability assigned by the market. As new geopolitical developments break, traders adjust positions, moving prices up or down to reflect changing expectations about whether the capture will occur within the specified timeframe.

This market resolves around Jan 1, 2027, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution hinges on whether Russian forces have captured and maintained control of the location by the deadline. Traders should monitor official military announcements, independent news sources, and geopolitical developments leading up to expiration to assess the likelihood of the specified outcome occurring.

Major military operations, territorial gains or losses, diplomatic negotiations, and official statements from relevant governments or military commands could significantly shift odds in this market. Ceasefire announcements, peace talks, or changes in military strategy would likely trigger sharp repricing. Additionally, independent verification of territorial control through satellite imagery or credible reporting could accelerate market movement as the resolution date approaches and the probability becomes clearer to traders.
