This market tracks whether Marine Le Pen will successfully appeal the five-year public office ineligibility ban imposed in March 2025, potentially clearing her path to run in the 2027 presidential election. On Polymarket, the probability of her winning the appeal stands at 30.0%. Resolution will be determined by official rulings from the Paris Court of Appeal, with the market resolving immediately upon the court's first merits judgment on the appeal. Watch the appeal hearings scheduled from January 13 to February 12, 2026, as the court's decision during this window will determine the outcome.
On March 31, 2025, Marine Le Pen was sentenced to a five-year ban from public office for embezzlement of public funds, potentially blocking her from the 2027 presidential race. The appeal focuses on this penalty, with hearings currently scheduled to run from January 13 to February 12. You can read more about that here: https://www.lemonde.fr/en/les-decodeurs/article/2026/01/13/understanding-marine-le-pen-s-crucial-appeals-trial_6749363_8.html. This market will resolve to “Yes” if the Paris Court of Appeal issues an initial appeal decision, lifting, annulling, suspending, or otherwise removing Marine Le Pen’s ineligibility penalty such that she is legally permitted to run for public office again, by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM CET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. This market will resolve immediately based on the first merits judgment rendered by the Paris Court of Appeal in this appeal, regardless of any subsequent appeals or legal proceedings. Procedural or interim rulings that do not decide the merits of the appeal will not qualify toward resolution. The primary resolution source for this market will be official rulings from the Paris Court of Appeal (Cour d’appel de Paris); however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect trader expectations about Le Pen's appeal success, which may diverge from traditional political polling. While polls measure voter preference or public opinion on Le Pen herself, prediction markets price the specific legal outcome of her appeal process. Markets incorporate insider knowledge, legal expert analysis, and real-time court developments that polls cannot capture. Comparing the two reveals whether traders believe Le Pen's appeal has better or worse odds than her broader political standing suggests, offering a complementary lens to standard survey data.
The market resolves on Mar 31, 2026. Resolution depends on whether Marine Le Pen's appeal to lift her ineligibility ban has been granted by that date. The outcome is determined by official court decisions and legal rulings on her appeal case. Traders should monitor French judicial announcements and appeal court schedules leading up to the resolution date. Any final ruling or definitive legal determination before the deadline will trigger market settlement.
Key catalysts include scheduled appeal court hearings, judicial rulings on procedural motions, and statements from French legal authorities on the timeline for Le Pen's case. Political developments, such as shifts in government or changes to electoral law, could influence court decisions. Media coverage of the appeal proceedings and expert legal commentary may also shift trader sentiment. Any announcement regarding the appeal's status, delays, or expedited review would likely trigger significant price movement. Traders should track French court calendars and official legal filings closely.
