Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the South Carolina Senate succession race dashboard tracks real-time odds and trading activity for who will fill the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Lindsey Graham. The dashboard displays the probability of each potential successor, historical price movements, and total volume of $63,450 traded on this market. Traders buy and sell shares representing different candidates, with prices reflecting the collective assessment of each outcome's likelihood. This live data helps investors and political observers monitor shifting expectations as the race develops and new information emerges.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional polling because traders have financial incentives to forecast accurately, whereas polls capture sentiment at a single moment. This market aggregates real-money bets from participants who research candidates and events continuously, potentially reflecting information faster than periodic surveys. Polls measure voter preference directly but can lag behind breaking news or campaign developments. Comparing this market's odds to available polling data can reveal where traders see different probabilities, though both approaches have distinct strengths in forecasting electoral outcomes.

This market resolves around Nov 2, 2026, when the outcome becomes verifiable from credible public sources. The resolution will confirm which candidate officially replaces Graham in the U.S. Senate seat, whether through election, appointment, or other legitimate succession mechanism. Until that date, prices will fluctuate as new developments emerge, including primary results, candidate announcements, and polling shifts. Once the successor is confirmed through official channels, the market settles and traders' positions are finalized based on the verified outcome.

Key catalysts include primary election results, candidate endorsements, major campaign announcements, and shifts in polling or fundraising. Unexpected candidate withdrawals or entries would significantly reshape odds. National political developments affecting Senate dynamics, changes in voter sentiment, and media coverage of frontrunners can all trigger repricing. Debate performances, scandal revelations, or demographic shifts in South Carolina could alter trader expectations. Each of these events provides new information that traders incorporate into their bets, causing prices to rise or fall as the probability of each outcome changes.
