This event tracks whether Zohran Mamdani mentions specific words or phrases during his next official announcement as part of the NYC Mayor's Office. The announcement must be a live, press-open event streamed on the NYC Mayor's Office YouTube channel after June 22, 2026, where Mamdani speaks in an official capacity.
Resolution is based on whether Zohran Mamdani uses any of the specified terms during the first NYC Mayor's Office livestream on the official YouTube channel (@NYCMayorsOffice) after June 22, 2026 at 2:00 pm ET, provided he speaks in an official capacity at a press-open event. The tracked terms are: Muslim/Islam, Trump/President, Economy/Economic, Afford/Affordable/Affordability, Budget/Deficit, New Era, Billionaire, Five Borough, ICE, Grocery, Albany, and NYPD. Each term must appear in exact form or as a plural or possessive variation; grammatical and tense inflections are otherwise excluded. Resolution relies primarily on video of the livestream; if video consensus cannot be reached by Kalshi employees, official transcripts (internal or external) will be used. Private conversations, inaudible remarks, or statements made outside official capacity do not qualify. Alternative agency streams may be used if the NYC Mayor's Office stream experiences technical outages or ends prematurely. Previously recorded content, archival footage, or recordings from separate events are excluded.
Prediction market odds reflect real-money bets from traders who profit when their forecasts prove accurate, creating strong incentives for precision. Analyst forecasts, by contrast, rely on expert judgment and published research but lack direct financial accountability. This market aggregates dispersed knowledge from many participants rather than centralizing opinion in a few voices. Historical research suggests prediction markets often outperform traditional analyst consensus on event outcomes, particularly when the underlying event is concrete and verifiable, as with public announcements.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through an order-book mechanism where traders buy and sell shares corresponding to different outcomes Mamdani may announce. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Prices range from 0 to 100 cents per share, with the midpoint reflecting the platform's aggregate belief in each outcome's likelihood. As traders place bids and asks, the market price adjusts in real time. Higher prices indicate stronger collective confidence; lower prices suggest skepticism. The spread between buy and sell orders reflects liquidity and uncertainty around the announcement's content.
This market resolves around Jun 30, 2026, once Mamdani's announcement has occurred and the specific statements can be verified. The outcome is confirmed by comparing his actual remarks against the predefined options available in the market. Resolution depends on credible public reporting of the announcement—such as official transcripts, video recordings, or reputable news coverage—to establish what was genuinely said. Once the event is verifiable from such sources, the market settles and winning positions are paid out accordingly.
Market prices may shift if Mamdani releases preparatory statements, schedules the announcement for an earlier or later date, or if media speculation about the announcement's content intensifies. Major geopolitical or industry developments related to Mamdani's domain could also reshape trader expectations. Unexpected public appearances or interviews by Mamdani might hint at announcement themes, prompting repricing. As the announcement date approaches, volatility often increases as traders finalize positions. Breaking news or official communications from Mamdani's organization could trigger sharp moves in either direction.
