This set of markets tracks potential movements in the USD to CAD exchange rate at a specific future moment. Each market evaluates whether the rate surpasses a particular threshold, offering insights into various possible outcomes for currency valuation.
All markets resolve based on the USDCAD exchange rate's opening candlestick value at 5pm ET on September 18, 2026, as published by Pyth. Each market has a unique threshold; if the rate is above its specified level at that time, the market resolves to Yes, otherwise to No. Data is rounded to four decimal places. If Pyth does not publish data at exactly 5pm ET, the most recent available value before that time will be used. Post-expiration revisions to the exchange rate do not affect resolution. All markets share these consistent secondary rules for data sourcing and tie-breaking.
Currently, prediction market odds reflect a collective assessment of the USDCAD price, which may differ from traditional analyst forecasts. While analysts often provide point estimates or ranges, this market aggregates the views of many traders, creating a probability distribution of potential outcomes. It’s common to see discrepancies between prediction markets and polls or expert opinions, as markets incorporate a wider range of information and incentives. This can provide a valuable alternative perspective when evaluating potential future price movements.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing different USDCAD price ranges. The price of each contract reflects the market's assessment of the probability of the USDCAD falling within that range at the specified time. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders adjust their bids and asks based on their own analysis and expectations, leading to a dynamic price discovery process. The market efficiently incorporates new information as it becomes available, constantly updating the probabilities of various outcomes.
This market resolves around Sep 18, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The final USDCAD price at 5:00 PM EDT on September 18th will be used to determine which contracts pay out. Specifically, contracts corresponding to the price range containing the actual USDCAD price at the resolution time will settle at 100, while all other contracts will settle to 0. The final price will be sourced from a widely recognized financial data provider.
Several factors could significantly influence this market before Sep 18, 2026. Major economic data releases from both the United States and Canada, such as inflation reports, employment figures, or GDP growth data, are likely to cause price fluctuations. Unexpected geopolitical events or shifts in monetary policy by the Federal Reserve or the Bank of Canada could also have a substantial impact. Furthermore, changes in oil prices, given Canada's significant oil exports, and overall global risk sentiment could move the USDCAD price and, consequently, this market.
