This market tracks changes in US mortgage application activity as reported by the Mortgage Bankers Association. It focuses on the first weekly survey release after the market opens, using the seasonally adjusted Market Composite Index to measure shifts in application volumes. Outcomes depend on whether the reported percentage change meets or exceeds specific thresholds.
All markets resolve based on the first-published percentage change in the Mortgage Bankers Association’s (MBA) seasonally adjusted Market Composite Index from the first new Weekly Applications Survey results release after market issuance. The reported change—whether positive, negative, or unchanged—is used directly, with holiday adjustments applied and no further calculation required. If multiple reference weeks are reported, the latest reference week’s change controls. Markets resolve to Yes only if the reported change is strictly greater than the specified strike (-10%, -8%, -6%, -4%, -2%, 0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, or 10%). Later revisions, corrections, or subsequent releases are disregarded. If the qualifying release is delayed, trading remains closed until the data is available, subject to contract expiration and missing-data provisions.
Currently, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than many traditional analyst forecasts for the US mortgage market. While some analysts predict a continued decline in mortgage applications due to rising interest rates, this market shows a degree of uncertainty. It’s important to remember that prediction markets represent the collective wisdom of traders, who weigh a wide range of factors, including economic data, news events, and even anecdotal evidence. This can lead to outcomes that diverge from those predicted by more conventional methods, offering a unique signal about future trends.
On Kalshi, this market is priced using a continuous double auction, meaning traders can buy and sell contracts representing their beliefs about the future change in US mortgage applications. The price of each contract reflects the probability of that outcome occurring. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust to reflect the evolving consensus. This dynamic pricing mechanism allows for a real-time assessment of market expectations, and the current prices provide insight into how traders are interpreting the latest economic indicators and news related to the housing sector.
This market resolves around Nov 4, 2026, with the outcome determined by the percentage change in mortgage applications reported in the next Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) Weekly Mortgage Applications Survey. The MBA report will be verified against credible public reporting to determine whether applications have increased or decreased. The specific percentage change that constitutes an increase or decrease is defined by the market’s contract specifications, and traders will be able to see the final result once it is officially published and confirmed. This allows for a clear and objective determination of the outcome.
Several key signals and events could significantly move this market before it resolves. Unexpected changes in interest rates, particularly those announced by the Federal Reserve, would likely have a substantial impact. Economic data releases, such as inflation reports and employment figures, can also influence market sentiment. Furthermore, any news related to housing affordability, government policies affecting the mortgage industry, or major shifts in consumer confidence could all contribute to price fluctuations in this market. Monitoring these factors will be crucial for understanding the direction of trading activity.
