Intro

This market tracks whether a US-Iran ceasefire will continue through October 15th, resolving based on whether the United States initiates a qualifying military action against Iran. Currently, Polymarket gives a 97.9% probability to the continuation of the ceasefire. Resolution will be determined by official information from the governments and militaries of the United States and Iran, alongside a consensus of credible reporting. Traders should closely watch for any developments leading up to October 15th, as this date represents the deadline for a qualifying military action to trigger a “No” resolution.

Polymarket

This market will resolve to “No” if the United States takes a qualifying military action against Iran by the specified date, 11:59 PM Iran Standard Time. Otherwise this market will resolve to “Yes.” A qualifying military action refers to an air strike or a surface-to-surface missile strike, initiated by the United States, that directly impacts Iran. An air strike includes bombs, air-to-surface missiles, and air-launched drones. A surface-to-surface missile strike includes one-way attack drones and surface-to-surface missiles such as cruise or ballistic missiles. The following actions do not constitute a qualifying military action: Munitions destroyed or intercepted before impact; Surface-to-air missile strikes; Small-arms fire; Ground incursions; Cyber operations; Naval gunfire and artillery fire; Howitzers, artillery pieces, mortars, and rocket artillery (e.g. MLRS systems); Minor surface-to-surface strikes, including short range loitering munitions, FPV drones, and ATGM strikes; Any threat, authorization, or announcement of force that has not been executed. Any munition that is intercepted or destroyed before impact does not constitute a qualifying military action. Debris, fragments, or any wreckage from intercepted munitions that land on Iran do not constitute a military action regardless of any damage incurred. “Iran” refers to the terrestrial territory of Iran, including its internal waters. Iran’s maritime territory and airspace are not encompassed. Where territorial borders are disputed, all territory claimed by and under the de facto control of Iran as of market creation will qualify. The occurrence, attribution, and timing of a qualifying military action will be primarily determined based on a consensus of information available from the resolution sources. Where multiple sources conflict regarding the occurrence, attribution, or timing of a relevant military action, this market will remain open until the earlier of: i) the confirmation of the occurrence, attribution, and timing of the action based on a consensus of information available from the resolution sources or ii) 3 full calendar days (Iran Standard Time) from the date of the first credibly reported evidence of the action. If this period would extend past the end date, this market will remain open to allow for 3 full calendar days to pass. At the end of the third calendar day, if conflicting reports remain, the incident will be adjudicated based on the totality of information available from the resolution sources at that time. No single statement, denial, or presentation of evidence will govern where it is contradicted by the totality of information. The resolution sources for this market will be official information from the governments and militaries of the United States and Iran and a consensus of credible reporting.

Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, this market tracks predictions about whether the US-Iran ceasefire will continue beyond specific dates. The dashboard displays the current odds, reflecting what traders are willing to pay to own 'yes' or 'no' shares. You can also view the price history to see how sentiment has shifted over time. Currently, the 24-hour volume is $715,541, and the total volume traded on the US-Iran ceasefire is $12,997,398. This provides a real-time view of expectations surrounding the duration of the ceasefire.

Currently, prediction market odds suggest a different outlook than many public polls regarding the continuation of the US-Iran ceasefire. While traditional polls often capture broad public opinion, this market represents the aggregated beliefs of those with 'skin in the game' – individuals who are financially incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. This can lead to a more nuanced and potentially more accurate prediction. It's important to note that polls and prediction markets measure different things, and discrepancies are common, especially on complex geopolitical events.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous exchange where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in whether the US-Iran ceasefire will continue. The price of 'yes' shares reflects the probability of the ceasefire continuing, while 'no' shares represent the probability of it ending. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price dynamically adjusts based on supply and demand, meaning that as more traders believe the ceasefire will continue, the price of 'yes' shares will increase, and vice versa. This creates a real-time assessment of the likelihood of different outcomes.

This market resolves around Dec 31, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the continuation or cessation of the US-Iran ceasefire is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on whether a publicly announced and verifiable ceasefire remains in effect beyond the specified dates. The market will then determine whether the 'yes' or 'no' outcome is the correct one, and shares will be settled accordingly. This process relies on publicly available information to ensure a transparent and objective resolution.

Several signals or events could significantly impact this market. Any major diplomatic breakthroughs or escalations between the US and Iran would likely cause substantial price movement. Unexpected political developments within either country, such as changes in leadership or policy shifts, could also influence trader sentiment. Furthermore, significant regional events, like attacks on oil infrastructure or proxy conflicts, could shift expectations regarding the ceasefire’s continuation. Monitoring these factors will be crucial for understanding how this market evolves leading up to Dec 31, 2026.
