Resolves Feb 5, 2027
$
Gasoline inventories fluctuate with seasonal demand patterns, production levels, and import/export dynamics. Lower inventories by month-end can indicate strong consumption or supply constraints, potentially leading to price increases if the market remains tight.
Settlement depends on U.S. total gasoline inventories at the end of November 2026, as measured by EIA’s monthly series MGTSTUS1. The first published month-end inventory figure, including any preliminary or estimated designations, will be used. Subsequent revisions do not impact settlement. Inventories are reported in thousand barrels and converted to million barrels by division by 1,000. Weekly figures and forecasts are excluded. The market has multiple thresholds (below 215 million, 210 million, 205 million, 200 million, and 195 million barrels), each resolving based on whether the reported inventory level falls below its respective threshold.
Currently, it's important to note that analyst forecasts for US gasoline inventories vary, but often center around expectations for seasonal draws or builds. This market allows for a different kind of forecast – one generated by the collective wisdom of traders who are putting their capital at risk. If the prevailing odds on Kalshi significantly diverge from the consensus of expert predictions, it could indicate that traders have access to, or are factoring in, information not yet reflected in traditional analysis. The market provides a real-time, quantifiable assessment of potential inventory levels.
On Kalshi, this market is priced using a continuous double auction. Traders buy and sell contracts representing their belief about whether U.S. total gasoline inventories at the end of November 2026 will be below 205 million barrels. The price of these contracts reflects the probability of that outcome, as determined by supply and demand. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The closer the contract price is to 100, the higher the market’s implied probability of inventories being below that threshold, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing mechanism allows the market to quickly incorporate new information.
This market resolves around Feb 5, 2027, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on the official U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) data for total gasoline inventories at the end of November 2026. The EIA’s weekly petroleum status reports are a standard source for this type of data, and the final inventory figure will determine whether the market settles in favor of inventories being below or at/above 205 million barrels.
Several factors could significantly influence this market. Unexpected disruptions to refinery operations, particularly along the Gulf Coast, would likely impact gasoline supply and move the market. Major geopolitical events affecting crude oil prices, from which gasoline is refined, could also have a substantial effect. Additionally, shifts in consumer demand due to economic conditions or seasonal travel patterns will be closely watched. Finally, any official reports or forecasts from the EIA regarding inventory trends will be key signals for traders in this market.
