Description

This event group tracks Brazil's 12-month consumer price inflation (IPCA) as measured by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) for the period ending December 2026. Polymarket offers 11 binary markets covering specific inflation bands (e.g., 4.50%-4.99%, 5.00%-5.49%) plus extreme outcomes, while Kalshi offers 10 binary markets using threshold-based logic (e.g., 'above 3.50%', 'above 5.25%'). Both platforms resolve using the official IBGE December 2026 IPCA report, scheduled for release on January 12, 2027.

PredictionHero - Resolution Divergence Alerts (RDA)

Divergence Detected

Issue: Polymarket uses mutually exclusive range-based markets while Kalshi uses overlapping threshold-based markets. Both reference the same IBGE data source but create incompatible settlement mechanics.Hero tip: Understand your platform's structure before trading. On Polymarket, exactly one band resolves YES. On Kalshi, all thresholds below the final inflation rate resolve YES. These are not equivalent hedges. Both platforms will use the same official IBGE December 2026 IPCA report as the settlement source.

Critical divergence points:

  • Polymarket: Range-based binary markets covering discrete inflation bands (3.00%-3.49%, 3.50%-3.99%, 4.00%-4.49%, 4.50%-4.99%, 5.00%-5.49%, 5.50%-5.99%, 6.00%-6.49%, 6.50%-6.99%, plus below 3.00% and at least 7.00%). Exactly one market resolves YES based on which band contains the final IPCA value reported to two decimal places. Quote: 'the resolution source for this market will be the official monthly IBGE IPCA news release which reports inflation during 12-month periods to two decimal points'
  • Kalshi: Threshold-based binary markets using cumulative logic (above 3.25%, 3.50%, 3.75%, 4.00%, 4.25%, 4.50%, 4.75%, 5.00%, 5.25%, 5.50%). Multiple markets resolve YES simultaneously for any outcome; all thresholds below the final rate trigger YES. Quote: 'If the 12-month inflation rate in Brazil is above [X]% in Dec 2026, then the market resolves to Yes'
Our PredictionHero Resolution Divergence Alerts (RDA) are there to help users identify potential differences across platforms. They do not replace or supersede the official rules and description of any prediction market. Users are solely responsible for reviewing and understanding the applicable rules and resolution criteria before placing any trade or bet. If you notice a potential inconsistency, discrepancy, or error in an alert, please report it to our team so we can review and improve the accuracy of our data.

Polymarket

This is a market about the variation of consumer prices in Brazil over the 12-month period ending December 2026, as reported by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). This market will resolve according to the percentage change in the Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA) during the 12-month period ending December 2026 according to the monthly IBGE report. The resolution source for this market will be the IBGE Extended National Consumer Price Index monthly report released for December 2026, currently scheduled to be released on January 12, 2027. Resolution of this market will take place upon release of the aforementioned data. If no data for the specified month is released by the date the next month's data is scheduled to be released, this market will resolve based on data from the last available month. You can find the relevant figure by locating the report for December 2026 on the Press Releases page (https://agenciadenoticias.ibge.gov.br/en/agencia-press-room.html), locating the Period-Rate table and finding the IPCA growth rate figure in the column labeled "Rate" and the Row labeled “Cumulative in the year / 12 Months”. Changes in the IBGE’s reporting format will not disqualify a published relevant figure from counting. Note: the resolution source for this market will be the official monthly IBGE IPCA news release which reports inflation during 12-month periods to two decimal points (e.g. 4.26%). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market. For the full release schedule, see: https://www.ibge.gov.br/en/calendar.html

Kalshi

The event resolves Yes if Brazil's 12-month inflation rate in December 2026 exceeds any of the specified thresholds: 3.25%, 3.50%, 3.75%, 4.00%, 4.25%, 4.50%, 4.75%, 5.00%, 5.25%, or 5.50%. Each threshold represents a separate resolution condition, with resolution based on the actual inflation rate reported for that month.
