This market tracks whether President Donald Trump will publicly announce that the United States has lifted its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by June 30, 2026. On Polymarket, the leading outcome currently stands at 100.0%. Resolution will be determined by official statements from Trump, the US government, or US military explicitly indicating the blockade has ended, with the primary resolution source being official US government announcements and credible reporting consensus. Watch for any formal announcement from Trump via Truth Social, official video statements, or US government officials before the June 30, 2026 deadline marking the end of the betting period.
On April 12, 2026, President Donald Trump announced that the United States will blockade the Strait of Hormuz. You can read more about that here: https://www.nbcnews.com/world/iran/live-blog/live-updates-us-iran-fail-reach-deal-peace-talks-day-negotiations-rcna315918. This market will resolve to "Yes" if President Trump, the US government, or the US military publicly and officially announces the end of the United States blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by the specified date, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No." Qualifying statements must clearly and explicitly indicate that the United States has lifted, ended, or will lift or end its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz on a specified date or use equivalently definitive language unambiguously signaling that such blockade has ceased or is set to cease on a specified date (e.g., statements unambiguously indicating that US naval activity in the relevant area has ceased will qualify). Statements that merely describe actions inconsistent with the blockade (e.g., "Iran resumed shipping through the Strait of Hormuz") without explicitly indicating the blockade as lifted will not alone suffice. Informal announcements, statements from unnamed sources, or leaks do not qualify. Written public statements from Donald Trump (e.g., posts from his personal Truth Social account) will qualify. Videos posted on his social media accounts will also qualify for a "Yes" resolution. The primary resolution source for this market will be official statements from the US government and/or its official representatives; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used. Note: this market will resolve solely based on whether a qualifying announcement is made within the specified timeframe. Whether the blockade is effectively enforced or whether maritime traffic resumes absent a qualifying announcement will not be considered.
Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect real-money trader expectations and differ from traditional polling, which typically measures public opinion on political preferences rather than specific geopolitical announcements. Markets price in classified intelligence, diplomatic signals, and expert forecasts that polls cannot capture. Unlike surveys, prediction markets create financial incentives for accuracy, often leading to sharper probability estimates. However, both tools remain uncertain; markets can be influenced by sentiment swings, while polls may lag breaking developments in Middle East policy.
The market resolves on Jul 31, 2026. Resolution hinges on whether a public announcement from Trump or his administration explicitly states that the US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has been lifted by that date. The outcome is binary: either the announcement occurs and the market resolves affirmatively, or it does not and resolves negatively. Timing and specificity of the announcement are critical; vague statements or conditional language may not satisfy resolution criteria. Traders should monitor official statements and credible news sources for clarity.
Key catalysts include direct diplomatic breakthroughs with Iran, shifts in US Middle East strategy, or statements from Trump or senior officials signaling policy changes toward the Strait. Regional escalations—attacks on shipping, military incidents, or sanctions announcements—could reduce the probability. Geopolitical developments such as nuclear negotiations, OPEC decisions, or broader US-Iran relations will influence trader expectations. Media coverage of blockade discussions and expert commentary on feasibility also drive price movement. Any official White House or State Department communication addressing Hormuz access is likely to trigger sharp market reaction.
