Prediction market odds and traditional polling often diverge because they measure different things. Polls capture voter sentiment at a single point in time, while this market aggregates real-money bets from traders who have financial incentive to forecast accurately. Markets can move ahead of polls when new information emerges—such as candidate endorsements, campaign spending, or voter turnout signals—that polls have not yet captured. Conversely, polls may show strength in a candidate that hasn't yet shifted market prices. Comparing the two side by side helps identify where market participants see opportunities or risks that public surveys may have missed.
On Polymarket, traders set prices through an automated market maker that balances supply and demand for each candidate's shares. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share represents a claim on one outcome, and its price reflects the implied probability that outcome will occur at resolution. When more traders buy a candidate's shares, the price rises and the implied probability increases; when sellers dominate, the price falls. This continuous repricing mechanism ensures the market stays efficient and responsive to new information, allowing you to enter or exit positions at transparent, real-time rates throughout the trading window.
This market resolves around Jul 21, 2026, once the by-election result is finalized and verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the official election result announced by Elections Manitoba or the relevant provincial authority. Traders holding shares in the winning candidate receive their payout, while losing positions expire worthless. The exact resolution timing may shift slightly if vote counting or official certification extends beyond the expected date, but the market will settle based on the authoritative electoral outcome once it is publicly confirmed.
Several catalysts can shift prices in this market. Major campaign announcements, candidate endorsements from prominent figures, or unexpected candidate withdrawals often trigger sharp moves. Polling releases—especially if they show significant momentum swings—typically drive trading activity. Local media coverage highlighting voter concerns or campaign gaffes can reshape sentiment quickly. Turnout forecasts and voter registration data may also influence odds as election day approaches. Finally, broader provincial political developments or changes in party leadership could affect how traders assess each candidate's viability. Each of these signals gives market participants new information to price into their positions.
