This event tracks the peak electricity demand on the Texas ERCOT grid for a specific day in 2026. The outcome depends on whether the highest recorded hourly load exceeds various threshold levels. The data comes directly from official ERCOT reports for that day.
All markets resolve based on the highest hourly total system load reported by ERCOT for September 7, 2026. The determining value comes from the first complete 'Actual System Load by Forecast Zone' CSV report published by ERCOT for that operating day, using the highest value found in the TOTAL column. Each market has a specific threshold (ranging from 78,000 MW to 89,000 MW); if the recorded peak load exceeds that threshold, the market resolves to Yes. All values are evaluated as published without rounding, and later revisions, settlements, or republications of the data will not affect the result. Only full-hour load values are considered—instantaneous readings from other sources are excluded.
Currently, prediction market odds reflect a different view than many traditional analyst forecasts for Texas electricity demand. While some analysts anticipate moderate demand growth due to population increases and economic expansion, this market suggests a wider range of potential outcomes. It’s important to remember that analyst forecasts are often based on models and assumptions, whereas this market represents the collective judgment of a diverse group of traders actively responding to new information. Discrepancies may arise from differing interpretations of weather patterns, grid reliability, and energy policy changes.
On Kalshi, this market is priced using a continuous double auction. Traders submit bids (the price they are willing to buy) and asks (the price they are willing to sell) for contracts representing different peak demand levels. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price fluctuates based on supply and demand, reflecting the evolving expectations of market participants. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price converges towards what the market believes is the most likely outcome. This dynamic pricing mechanism allows for real-time adjustments based on collective intelligence.
This market resolves around Sep 15, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the actual peak electricity demand on September 7, 2026, is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on data published by ERCOT, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which operates the state’s power grid. The specific demand level that is ultimately reported by ERCOT will determine which contracts pay out, and at what value, according to the market’s specifications. Traders will be able to view the official resolution data on Kalshi following the event.
Several factors could significantly impact this market before Sep 15, 2026. Major weather events, such as extreme heat waves or unexpected cold snaps, are likely to drive increased demand and influence prices. Changes in energy policy, like new regulations regarding renewable energy sources or grid infrastructure investments, could also play a role. Furthermore, economic indicators, such as job growth and industrial production, can affect overall electricity consumption. Unexpected outages at power plants or transmission lines could also create volatility in this market, as traders assess the potential impact on grid reliability.
