This market will resolve to "Up" if the official S&P 500 Index closing price for S&P 500 (SPX) on Thursday, June 4, 2026 is higher than the official S&P 500 Index closing price for SPX on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official S&P 500 Index closing price for S&P 500 (SPX) on Thursday, June 4, 2026 is lower than the official S&P 500 Index closing price for SPX on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If SPX does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by S&P 500 Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, the S&P 500 Up or Down event is priced as two complementary outcomes: one contract for the S&P 500 closing up and another for it closing down on June 4. The price of each contract reflects the probability traders assign to that outcome, ranging from 0 to 1 (or 0% to 100%). Buyers purchase contracts at the current ask price if they believe that outcome will occur; sellers short at the bid if they expect it will not. As new information arrives—economic reports, geopolitical events, or market momentum shifts—traders adjust their bids and asks, moving prices and implied probabilities in real time until market resolution.
The market resolves at Jun 4, 2026. Resolution is determined by the official closing price of the S&P 500 index on June 4, 2026. If the index closes above its previous day's close, the Up outcome resolves to yes; if it closes below, the Down outcome resolves to yes. The outcome is binary—only one can resolve affirmatively. Market participants should monitor the official S&P 500 closing price published by major financial data providers to confirm the final result.
Key catalysts for S&P 500 direction on June 4 include Federal Reserve communications, inflation and employment data releases, corporate earnings surprises, and geopolitical developments. Economic reports—such as jobless claims or manufacturing PMI—can shift market sentiment within hours. Fed speakers or policy announcements may signal interest-rate expectations, directly affecting equity valuations. Earnings beats or misses from major index constituents can drive sector rotations. Overnight international market movements, commodity price swings, or credit-market stress can also influence opening sentiment. Traders should monitor the economic calendar and news flow closely in the days leading up to June 4 to anticipate directional pressure on the index.
