This market will resolve to "Up" if the official S&P 500 Index closing price for S&P 500 (SPX) on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 is higher than the official S&P 500 Index closing price for SPX on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official S&P 500 Index closing price for S&P 500 (SPX) on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 is lower than the official S&P 500 Index closing price for SPX on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If SPX does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by S&P 500 Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Prediction market odds often diverge meaningfully from traditional analyst sentiment because they reflect real money at stake rather than opinion surveys. While Wall Street strategists may issue broad directional guidance, this market aggregates the collective judgment of traders who face financial consequences for being wrong. Comparing the odds here to consensus analyst calls can reveal where the market is pricing in tail risks or opportunities that formal forecasts may underweight, offering a complementary perspective on near-term equity direction.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling shares corresponding to each outcome—up or down. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market price reflects the collective willingness to bet at that level, with tighter spreads indicating higher confidence and wider spreads suggesting uncertainty. As new information arrives or sentiment shifts, traders adjust their positions, moving the odds in real time until the market closes on Jun 16, 2026.
This market resolves around Jun 16, 2026, once the trading day concludes and the S&P 500's final closing level is confirmed. The outcome is determined by whether the index finishes above or below its previous close, verified against credible public financial data sources. Resolution typically occurs within hours of market close, allowing traders to see results and settle positions promptly.
Economic data releases, Federal Reserve communications, corporate earnings surprises, and geopolitical developments can all shift sentiment intraday and move this market sharply. Volatility often spikes around major macroeconomic announcements or unexpected news that affects risk appetite. Technical levels, sector rotation, and momentum from overnight futures trading also influence how traders position themselves ahead of the close, making the odds dynamic throughout the day.
