Description

This market will resolve to "Up" if the official S&P 500 Index closing price for S&P 500 (SPX) on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 is higher than the official S&P 500 Index closing price for SPX on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official S&P 500 Index closing price for S&P 500 (SPX) on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 is lower than the official S&P 500 Index closing price for SPX on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If SPX does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by S&P 500 Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect real-money consensus from thousands of traders betting on SPX direction, often differing from traditional analyst forecasts. While sell-side equity strategists publish target prices and directional calls based on fundamental analysis, prediction markets incorporate live market expectations and tail-risk pricing. Analysts typically issue longer-term outlooks, whereas this market focuses on a single day's close. Comparing the two reveals whether professional consensus aligns with crowd expectations, and divergences often signal either underpriced tail risks or overconfident positioning in the prediction market.

On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, the Up and Down outcomes are priced as complementary contracts, with each reflecting the implied probability of that direction. Traders buy and sell shares at prices between 0 and 1 cent, where the price directly represents the market's estimated likelihood. Order books show bids and asks for both sides, and the spread between them reflects liquidity and conviction. As new information arrives—such as inflation data, employment reports, or geopolitical events—prices adjust dynamically. The final price at Jun 10, 2026 determines which outcome resolves to 1 cent and which to zero.

The market resolves at Jun 10, 2026, following the close of regular trading on June 10, 2026. Resolution is determined by the official closing price of the S&P 500 index on that date. The Up outcome wins if the close is higher than the prior day's close; the Down outcome wins if it closes lower. Any gap or unchanged close follows standard index settlement rules. Once the official close is published, the market settles automatically and payouts are distributed to winning positions on Polymarket.

Major catalysts for SPX direction on June 10 include Federal Reserve communications, inflation and employment data releases, corporate earnings surprises, and geopolitical developments. Economic reports—such as CPI, jobless claims, or retail sales—published in the days before June 10 often drive broad market repricing. Fed speakers and policy signals can shift rate-cut expectations, affecting equity valuations. Earnings beats or misses from mega-cap companies influence index momentum. International events, central bank actions, or credit market stress can trigger sharp reversals. Traders on Polymarket continuously update odds as these signals emerge, making the prediction market a real-time gauge of evolving SPX sentiment.
