Prediction markets often diverge from traditional polls because traders incorporate real-time information, campaign developments, and insider knowledge into their pricing. While polls capture voter sentiment at a single moment, this market reflects ongoing expectations about the final outcome. Traders may weight recent events, fundraising, or endorsements differently than pollsters do. Comparing the implied probability here to published polling averages can reveal where the market is more bullish or bearish on a candidate than survey data suggests, highlighting potential inefficiencies or forward-looking sentiment.
This market resolves around Jul 19, 2026, once the election outcome is verifiable from credible public reporting. The winner will be determined by the official results announced by São Tomé and Príncipe's electoral authorities. Traders holding shares in the correct candidate will receive their payout based on the final settlement price. Until that date, positions remain open and prices may fluctuate as new developments unfold.
Major catalysts include campaign announcements, candidate debates, polling releases, and endorsements from influential figures or parties. Economic developments, security concerns, or international relations shifts could also sway voter sentiment. Media coverage of scandals or policy proposals may trigger sharp price movements. Turnout expectations, regional voting blocs, and coalition-building efforts among parties are closely watched by traders. As election day nears, any last-minute surprises or shifts in momentum typically drive increased trading volume and rapid odds adjustments.
