Polymarket

This market will resolve to “Yes” if there is a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine by the specified date, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. A ceasefire agreement refers to any mutually-agreed suspension of direct military engagement between Russia and Ukraine, which is either officially announced by both countries or confirmed by a consensus of credible reporting to have been mutually agreed by both countries. A broader peace deal, normalization agreement, political framework, truce, or humanitarian pause will qualify if it includes a mutually agreed suspension of direct military engagement, to be effective on a specified date. Agreements that outline future negotiations or de-escalation measures without an explicit, dated commitment to stop fighting will not qualify. Any form of informal understanding, backchannel communication, de-escalation without an announced agreement, or unilateral pause in hostilities will not be considered a ceasefire agreement. Only agreements which constitute a general pause in the conflict will qualify. Agreements which only apply to specific conflict categories (e.g. restrictions on certain target categories or certain locations) will not qualify. If a qualifying agreement is officially reached before this market’s end date, this market will resolve to “Yes,” regardless of whether the ceasefire agreement officially takes effect after that date. The primary resolution sources for this market will be official information from the governments of Russia and Ukraine and a consensus of credible reporting.

Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect real-money incentives and trader conviction, often diverging from traditional polling on geopolitical outcomes. While polls measure public sentiment or expert opinion at a snapshot in time, prediction markets aggregate distributed information from participants betting on actual resolution. For a complex diplomatic event like a Russia-Ukraine ceasefire, markets may price in classified intelligence, backchannels, and dynamic negotiation signals that public polls cannot capture, resulting in meaningfully different probability assessments.

On Polymarket, the Russia x Ukraine ceasefire agreement market is priced using an automated market maker model where traders buy and sell outcome shares. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The top outcome—ceasefire by May 31, 2026—currently trades at 52.5% implied probability, reflecting trader expectations of diplomatic progress within that timeframe. Prices adjust continuously as new information emerges, geopolitical developments occur, or negotiation signals shift, allowing participants to trade their views on the likelihood and timing of a formal agreement.

The market resolves on Jul 1, 2027. Resolution hinges on whether a formal ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine is officially announced and recognized by the specified deadline. The outcome is binary: either a qualifying ceasefire agreement is reached by the deadline, or it is not. Traders should monitor official government statements, international diplomatic channels, and credible news sources for announcements of any negotiated settlement or formal truce between the two parties.

Key catalysts include high-level diplomatic meetings, statements from Russian or Ukrainian leadership regarding negotiations, involvement of international mediators, sanctions relief announcements, military developments on the ground, and shifts in Western support for Ukraine. Peace summit announcements, UN-brokered talks, or proposals from neutral countries could drive odds higher. Conversely, escalations, weapons deliveries, or hardline rhetoric could lower ceasefire probability. Economic pressure, domestic political changes in either nation, or third-party intervention may also significantly influence market pricing before resolution.
