This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for Russell 2000 (RUT) on Monday, September 21, 2026 is higher than the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for RUT on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for Russell 2000 (RUT) on Monday, September 21, 2026 is lower than the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for RUT on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If RUT does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Russell 2000 Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Comparing prediction market odds to analyst forecasts reveals interesting insights into collective intelligence. While many financial analysts are currently predicting a moderate increase in the Russell 2000, this market reflects a more nuanced view. The current probabilities suggest a significant possibility of a downward movement, potentially indicating that traders are factoring in risks not fully captured by traditional analysis. This divergence highlights the ability of prediction markets to incorporate a wider range of information and perspectives than standard forecasts.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief about the Russell 2000’s direction. The price of these shares directly reflects the probability of the 'Up' outcome, with the 'Down' outcome being the inverse. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The higher the demand for 'Up' shares, the higher the price, and the greater the implied probability of an increase. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the aggregated wisdom of all participants.
This market resolves around Sep 21, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the closing price of the Russell 2000 index on September 21st will be used to determine whether the market settles as 'Up' or 'Down'. The resolution will be based on publicly available data from a recognized financial data provider, ensuring transparency and objectivity in the outcome verification process. Traders should monitor the index's performance leading up to the resolution date.
Several signals or events could significantly move this market before Sep 21, 2026. Unexpected economic data releases, such as inflation reports or employment figures, could influence investor sentiment and shift the market’s direction. Geopolitical events, including trade negotiations or international conflicts, also have the potential to create volatility. Furthermore, any major news regarding corporate earnings or Federal Reserve policy could trigger substantial price movements in the Russell 2000 and, consequently, in this market. Monitoring these factors is crucial for understanding potential shifts in trader sentiment.
