This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for Russell 2000 (RUT) on Friday, June 12, 2026 is higher than the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for RUT on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for Russell 2000 (RUT) on Friday, June 12, 2026 is lower than the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for RUT on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If RUT does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Russell 2000 Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts because they reflect real-money incentives and crowdsourced expectations rather than formal equity research. While Wall Street analysts publish target prices and technical outlooks for the Russell 2000, this market aggregates the collective judgment of traders betting on a single day's directional move. Analysts typically focus on longer-term valuations and sector trends, whereas prediction markets isolate discrete, near-term events. Both sources offer value: analysts provide fundamental context, while this market captures concentrated market sentiment on the specific outcome.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling shares representing each outcome—Russell 2000 up or down on June 12. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each share reflects the implied probability; a share trading at $0.75 suggests a 75% chance of that outcome occurring. Liquidity and order flow determine how quickly prices move in response to new information or shifting trader conviction. As the resolution date approaches, prices typically converge toward either extreme as uncertainty resolves.
This market resolves around Jun 12, 2026, once the Russell 2000's closing price for that day is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is binary: traders who backed the "up" side win if the index closes higher than its opening level, while "down" backers win if it closes lower. Any gap or unchanged close is typically resolved according to the platform's standard rules for equity indices. Resolution occurs shortly after market close and official data publication.
Major catalysts for this market include Federal Reserve announcements, economic data releases, earnings surprises, and geopolitical developments that typically drive small-cap sentiment. The Russell 2000 is particularly sensitive to interest rate expectations and domestic economic growth signals, so inflation reports, jobs data, or Fed communications can trigger sharp repricing. Corporate earnings, sector rotation flows, and broader equity market volatility in the days leading up to June 12 will also influence trader positioning. Intraday momentum and technical levels may amplify moves as the resolution date nears.
