This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for Russell 2000 (RUT) on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 is higher than the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for RUT on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for Russell 2000 (RUT) on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 is lower than the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for RUT on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If RUT does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Russell 2000 Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Prediction markets and traditional analyst forecasts approach the same question differently. Analysts typically issue directional calls based on fundamental research and technical analysis, while this market aggregates real-money bets from many traders with varying time horizons and information sets. Prediction market odds often incorporate fast-moving sentiment and breaking news more dynamically than published analyst reports. Comparing the two can reveal whether professional consensus aligns with the crowd's assessment of Russell 2000 momentum on the target date.
On Polymarket, traders set prices through an automated market maker (AMM) mechanism, where buying one outcome automatically adjusts the price of the other. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The cost to buy a share representing "up" or "down" reflects the probability implied by the order flow and liquidity pool. As more capital flows into one side, that outcome's price rises and the opposing outcome's price falls. This continuous repricing ensures the market stays responsive to new information and trader conviction.
This market resolves around Jul 8, 2026, once the Russell 2000's closing price for that day is finalized and verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by whether the RUT index closes above or below its opening level on July 8. Winning shares are redeemed at full value, while losing shares expire worthless. Resolution is automatic once the official closing data is confirmed.
Several catalysts can shift odds before the market closes. Federal Reserve announcements, inflation data, or employment reports can reshape expectations around growth and small-cap earnings. Earnings surprises from major Russell 2000 constituents, geopolitical developments, or shifts in interest rate expectations all influence trader positioning. Intraday volatility, sector rotation, and broader market sentiment on the day itself will likely drive the final price action. Technical levels and options expiry dynamics may also play a role in determining the index's closing direction.
