Description

This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for Russell 2000 (RUT) on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 is higher than the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for RUT on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for Russell 2000 (RUT) on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 is lower than the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for RUT on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If RUT does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Russell 2000 Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Russell 2000 daily movement market tracks whether the RUT index closes higher or lower on July 7. This dashboard displays real-time odds for each outcome, historical price movements, and trading activity. Traders use this venue to express conviction about intraday equity market direction for the small-cap Russell 2000 index. The interface shows current implied probabilities and allows participants to buy or sell shares corresponding to up or down outcomes, with payouts determined by the final closing price relative to the previous session's close.

Prediction market odds reflect real-time trader sentiment and aggregate information from thousands of participants, whereas traditional analyst forecasts rely on published research and models from a smaller group of professionals. This market's odds can diverge significantly from consensus analyst views because traders incorporate breaking news, earnings surprises, and macroeconomic shifts faster than formal research updates. Markets often prove more accurate at short-term directional calls because participants have direct financial incentive to price in all available information. Comparing current odds to recent analyst commentary on small-cap equity momentum can reveal where the crowd sees opportunity or risk that traditional forecasters may have missed.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds through an automated market maker that adjusts prices based on order flow and liquidity. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Shares representing each outcome trade continuously, and the current price of an up or down share reflects the market's implied probability. As more traders buy up shares, the price rises and the probability of that outcome increases; conversely, selling pressure lowers the price. This mechanism ensures that the market price at any moment represents the collective forecast of all active participants, with deeper liquidity typically producing tighter bid-ask spreads and more reliable price discovery.

This market resolves around Jul 7, 2026, once the Russell 2000's closing price for that trading day is finalized and verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the RUT's closing level to the previous session's close: if it finishes higher, the up outcome wins; if lower, the down outcome prevails. No partial or tie outcomes are possible in this binary structure. Resolution typically occurs within hours of market close, allowing traders to see final payouts the same evening.

Major catalysts include Federal Reserve policy announcements, employment data releases, corporate earnings surprises, and geopolitical developments that affect risk appetite for small-cap equities. The Russell 2000 is particularly sensitive to interest rate expectations and domestic economic growth signals, so inflation reports and GDP revisions can shift odds sharply. Sector-specific news—such as banking stress, retail sales trends, or technology volatility—often moves this index more than large-cap benchmarks. Intraday market momentum and options expiration dynamics on July 7 itself can also influence final direction, especially if the index trades near key technical levels heading into the close.
