Description

This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for Russell 2000 (RUT) on Monday, July 20, 2026 is higher than the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for RUT on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for Russell 2000 (RUT) on Monday, July 20, 2026 is lower than the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for RUT on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If RUT does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Russell 2000 Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Russell 2000 daily movement market dashboard tracks real-time odds for whether the RUT index will close higher or lower on July 20. The interface displays current market prices, historical price movements, and trading activity for this market. Traders use the dashboard to monitor shifting sentiment around the small-cap benchmark's intraday direction. The platform aggregates all buy and sell orders to produce a live probability estimate, allowing participants to see how conviction has evolved as new information emerges. This market reflects collective trader expectations about near-term market momentum and volatility.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts because they reflect real-money incentives and live market pricing rather than static published opinions. On this market, traders are betting their capital on the Russell 2000's actual close, which typically produces more dynamic and responsive probability estimates than consensus analyst calls. Analysts may issue directional guidance weeks in advance, while prediction markets update continuously as earnings reports, economic data, and Fed commentary emerge. The market-derived odds tend to incorporate a broader range of information sources and adjust faster to breaking news, making them a complementary signal to formal equity research.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts order flow into real-time probabilities. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders buy and sell shares representing each outcome—RUT up or RUT down—and the platform's pricing algorithm adjusts the odds based on the ratio of shares held in the liquidity pool. Higher demand for one outcome increases its price and implied probability. The spread between bid and ask prices reflects market depth and uncertainty; tighter spreads indicate strong consensus, while wider spreads suggest genuine disagreement among participants about the likely direction.

This market resolves around Jul 20, 2026, once the Russell 2000's closing price for that day is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is binary: if the RUT closes higher than the previous day's close, the up outcome wins; if it closes lower, the down outcome wins. Resolution is straightforward and objective, tied directly to published market data. Traders holding winning shares receive their payout automatically once the index close is confirmed and the market is officially settled.

Several catalysts could shift odds before July 20. Macroeconomic data releases—particularly inflation reports, employment figures, and Fed communications—typically move small-cap sentiment sharply. Earnings announcements from major RUT constituents, changes in interest rate expectations, and geopolitical developments can also trigger repricing. Volatility in tech stocks often influences the Russell 2000 indirectly through sector rotation. Intraday momentum and technical levels may attract algorithmic traders, especially as the close approaches. Any unexpected corporate news, merger activity, or shifts in risk appetite among institutional investors could accelerate movement in either direction.
