This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for Russell 2000 (RUT) on Monday, July 13, 2026 is higher than the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for RUT on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for Russell 2000 (RUT) on Monday, July 13, 2026 is lower than the official Russell 2000 Index closing price for RUT on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If RUT does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Russell 2000 Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional analyst forecasts because they reflect real-money incentives and crowd wisdom rather than individual opinions. While financial analysts may publish directional views on equity indices based on technical or fundamental analysis, this market aggregates the views of many traders betting their own capital. Prediction markets tend to incorporate breaking news and sentiment shifts faster than published forecasts update. Comparing the implied probability in this market to consensus analyst calls can reveal where the crowd sees asymmetric risk or opportunity that traditional research may have missed.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader bets into real-time odds. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome—Russell 2000 up or down—has a price between 0 and 1, where higher prices reflect greater perceived likelihood. Traders buy shares of their chosen outcome; as more capital flows into one side, its price rises and the opposing outcome's price falls. The market price at any moment represents the marginal trader's assessment of probability, making it a dynamic and continuously updated forecast of the index's direction on the specified date.
This market resolves around Jul 13, 2026, once the trading day closes and the Russell 2000's final price is confirmed. The outcome is determined by whether the index closes above or below its opening level on that date. Resolution is verified against credible public sources reporting the official closing price. Traders who correctly predicted the direction receive their winnings, while those on the losing side forfeit their stake. The binary structure—up or down—makes the outcome unambiguous and easy to verify.
Major economic data releases, Federal Reserve communications, and corporate earnings announcements can shift odds significantly in the days leading up to July 13. Geopolitical events, inflation reports, or unexpected market volatility often trigger rapid repricing as traders reassess risk. Sector-specific news affecting large RUT constituents—particularly small-cap technology and industrials—may also influence the market. Intraday momentum and technical levels can create self-reinforcing moves as algorithmic traders and retail participants react to price action. Monitoring financial news and economic calendars helps traders anticipate which catalysts might move this market closer to resolution.
