This event tracks the average real-time electricity price at the PJM Dominion Hub over a specific week in 2026. The outcome depends on whether this average exceeds various price thresholds, reflecting potential stress or surplus conditions in the regional power grid during that period.
All markets resolve based on the simple average of verified hourly real-time power prices at the PJM Dominion Hub from October 16, 2026 at 5:00 PM EDT to October 23, 2026 at 5:00 PM EDT. The average includes all applicable hourly prices, even negative ones, and is rounded to two decimal places with exact halves rounded away from zero. Equality with any threshold resolves to 'No'. Trading closes on October 23, 2026 at 4:59 PM EDT, and the final delivery interval is counted. Only the first published prices are used, with later corrections considered only if they occur before expiration and are accepted as material error corrections. Missing data points are not filled in; if at least 95% of intervals are available, the average is calculated from available prices. If less than 95% of data is available, the market resolves only if the available data conclusively determines the outcome; otherwise, it settles at the Exchange-determined last fair price.
Currently, it's important to note that analyst forecasts for the PJM power price are varied, with estimates ranging depending on factors like weather patterns and fuel costs. This market allows you to compare the wisdom of the crowd to those expert predictions. If you believe the market is under or overestimating the likely price, you can participate by trading contracts. Examining the difference between the market price and external forecasts can reveal potential opportunities or areas of agreement regarding the future power price.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book, where traders buy and sell contracts representing potential price outcomes. The current price of a contract reflects the probability of that price occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders are constantly adjusting their bids and asks based on new information, leading to a dynamic price discovery process. This allows the market to aggregate diverse perspectives and form a collective prediction about the PJM power price during Week 43.
This market resolves around Oct 23, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on the average of the real-time power prices at the PJM Dominion Hub during Week 43, as reported by the appropriate market authorities. This ensures a transparent and objective determination of the result, reflecting the actual conditions in the power market at that time. Traders will then receive payouts based on whether their predictions aligned with the final average price.
Several factors could significantly impact this market. Unexpected weather patterns, particularly extreme temperatures, can drive up demand for electricity and therefore power prices. Changes in natural gas prices, a key fuel source for power generation, will also be closely watched. Any disruptions to power plant operations, such as outages or maintenance, could reduce supply and push prices higher. Finally, broader economic news and shifts in energy policy could influence market sentiment and trading activity in this market.
