The specific day with the highest volume of shipping activity through the Strait of Hormuz during the week will be identified. Each market corresponds to a calendar day, and resolves based on whether that day had the peak number of transits, with tied days splitting the resolution value equally.
Each market resolves to Yes if the corresponding date (September 7–13, 2026) has the highest number of transit calls through the Strait of Hormuz, as reported by IMF PortWatch, within the period. Daily counts are evaluated from September 7 to September 13, 2026. If multiple days tie for the highest count, each tied day's market resolves to 1/N, where N is the number of tied days. All markets resolve no earlier than Tuesday at 9 AM following the period's end, once complete data is available.
Currently, it is difficult to directly compare the odds in this market to traditional polling data, as there aren’t widely available public polls specifically forecasting daily traffic volume through the Strait of Hormuz. However, analysts following geopolitical events in the region often offer assessments of potential disruptions to shipping. This market provides a real-time, quantifiable measure of collective belief about the likelihood of different traffic scenarios, which can be contrasted with expert opinions and news-based forecasts. Discrepancies between this market and analyst expectations could signal valuable insights.
On Kalshi, this market is priced using a continuous double auction. Traders buy and sell contracts corresponding to different daily traffic levels through the Strait of Hormuz. The price of each contract reflects the market’s assessment of the probability of that specific traffic level occurring. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust, providing a dynamic and real-time estimate of expectations. The market aggregates the views of many participants, creating a forward-looking indicator of potential maritime activity.
This market resolves around Sep 15, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on the highest daily volume of vessel transits through the Strait of Hormuz recorded during the period of September 7th to September 13th, 2024. Data will be sourced from publicly available maritime tracking information. The specific traffic level that corresponds to the highest recorded daily volume will determine the winning outcome in this market.
Several factors could significantly influence this market before Sep 15, 2026. Geopolitical tensions in the region, such as increased military activity or attacks on shipping vessels, would likely cause a shift in prices. Major disruptions to oil production or exports could also impact traffic volume. Unexpected weather events, like severe storms, might temporarily reduce transit numbers. Furthermore, announcements regarding changes to shipping routes or security measures in the Strait of Hormuz could move the market, as traders adjust their expectations based on the latest developments.
