The specific day with the highest shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz during the same September 2026 week will determine resolution. Each calendar day from September 14 to September 20 has its own market, reflecting where the peak daily activity occurs. Tie-breaking rules apply when multiple days record identical highest counts.
Each market resolves if its corresponding date (September 14 through September 20, 2026) records the highest number of transit calls through the Strait of Hormuz, as reported by IMF PortWatch, during the evaluation period. Daily counts from September 14 to September 20 will be compared. If multiple days tie for the highest count, each tied day's market resolves to 1/N, where N equals the number of tied days. All markets resolve no earlier than Tuesday at 9 AM following the period's end, after complete data verification.
Currently, it's difficult to directly compare the odds in this market to traditional polling data, as there aren't widely available polls specifically forecasting daily shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. However, analysts following geopolitical events in the region generally anticipate potential disruptions due to ongoing tensions. This market provides a real-time assessment of collective belief, expressed through financial commitments, regarding the likelihood of different traffic scenarios, offering a potentially more dynamic and accurate signal than static polling averages.
On Kalshi, this market is priced using a continuous double auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell contracts representing different outcomes—in this case, levels of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. The price of each contract reflects the market's assessment of the probability of that outcome occurring. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the prices adjust, providing a constantly updated forecast. The current top outcome is unavailable, and the chance percentage is also unavailable.
This market resolves around Sep 22, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on identifying the day with the highest recorded number of vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz between September 14th and September 20th. Data will be sourced from publicly available maritime tracking services and verified against credible public sources. The specific traffic level corresponding to the peak day will determine the winning outcome in this market.
Several factors could significantly impact this market. Escalations in geopolitical tensions involving Iran and regional shipping lanes would likely increase the perceived risk of disruptions and potentially lower the odds of high traffic days. Conversely, diplomatic breakthroughs or assurances of safe passage could boost confidence and raise those odds. Unexpected weather events, such as major storms, could also temporarily reduce traffic flow. Any significant news regarding oil prices, global trade routes, or naval activity in the region could influence trading activity and shift the probabilities reflected in this market.
