This market will resolve according to the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate (total unemployed, as a percent of the civilian labor force, official unemployment rate denoted as U-3) reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the Employment Situation Report for October 2026. The resolution source for this market is the Monthly Employment Situation Report, published by the BLS every month at https://www.bls.gov/bls/news-release/empsit.htm, specifically the U-3 measure in Table A-15 for the month in question. The relevant data release is scheduled for November 6, 2026, at 8:30 AM ET. This market will resolve as soon as the relevant data is issued. Any revisions to the data after the first release will not count toward this market's resolution. If no data for the specified month is released by the date the next month's data is scheduled to be released, this market will resolve based on data from the last available month. Note: the resolution source for this market reports unemployment to one decimal point. Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market.

Currently, prediction market odds reflect a different outlook than many traditional analyst forecasts for the October unemployment rate. While some analysts predict a slight increase, this market suggests a higher probability of the rate remaining stable or even decreasing slightly. It's important to remember that analyst forecasts are often based on economic models and surveys, while this market represents the collective wisdom of traders who are putting their capital at risk. This difference in perspective can be valuable for understanding the range of possible outcomes and the level of uncertainty surrounding the report.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief about the October unemployment rate. The price of each share reflects the probability of that outcome being correct. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market price fluctuates based on supply and demand, with higher demand driving up prices and lower demand driving them down. This creates a dynamic pricing system that quickly incorporates new information and reflects the evolving expectations of market participants. The current price indicates what traders believe is the most likely unemployment rate range.
This market resolves around Nov 6, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the October unemployment rate is verifiable from credible public reporting. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) will release the official unemployment rate data, and that figure will be used to determine the winning outcome in this market. Traders who correctly predicted the unemployment rate range will receive a payout proportional to their shareholding and the market's payout structure. The resolution process aims to be transparent and based on a widely accepted source of economic data.
Several signals or events could significantly move this market before it resolves. Unexpected economic data releases, such as changes in initial jobless claims or non-farm payrolls, could shift trader sentiment. Major geopolitical events or shifts in Federal Reserve policy could also impact expectations for the labor market. Furthermore, any revisions to previous unemployment rate figures could influence how traders assess the current economic conditions. Positive or negative news regarding corporate hiring plans or industry-specific layoffs would also be closely watched and could lead to significant price movements in this market.
