Description

This market will resolve to "Up" if the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA (NYA) on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 is higher than the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA (NYA) on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 is lower than the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If NYA does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by NYSE Composite Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the NYA index direction market dashboard displays real-time odds and historical price data for traders wagering on whether the index will close up or down on June 30. The interface shows current bid-ask spreads, cumulative trading volume, and a price chart reflecting how market participants have repriced their conviction over time. This market aggregates the collective forecast of traders placing capital behind their directional view, offering a live snapshot of crowd sentiment on the index's near-term trajectory.

Prediction market odds and traditional analyst forecasts often diverge because they operate on different incentive structures. Analysts publish opinions based on research and reputation; traders in this market stake real money on outcomes, creating a direct financial penalty for inaccuracy. While analyst reports may emphasize fundamental analysis and long-term trends, market prices reflect immediate consensus and incorporate breaking news instantly. Comparing the two reveals whether professional opinion aligns with the aggregate bet, highlighting areas where the crowd sees opportunity or risk that traditional research may have missed.

On Polymarket, traders set prices through an automated market maker mechanism where each outcome—up or down—is represented as a tradable share. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The cost to buy a share reflects the current probability assigned by the market; as traders buy or sell, prices adjust dynamically. Liquidity providers and active traders continuously arbitrage perceived mispricings, pushing the market toward an equilibrium that balances supply and demand. This decentralized pricing model ensures that odds remain responsive to new information and trader conviction.

This market resolves around Jun 30, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Traders holding the winning outcome receive their payout, while losing positions expire worthless. The resolution hinges on the index's closing direction on that specific date—a binary outcome with no ambiguity. Early resolution is possible if the event is decided before the scheduled end date, though most markets run through their full window to capture all relevant price action.

Major economic data releases, central bank announcements, corporate earnings surprises, and geopolitical developments can all shift trader positioning in this market. Volatility spikes, shifts in interest rate expectations, and sector-specific news may influence the index's directional bias. Technical levels and momentum reversals also attract algorithmic and discretionary traders seeking to capitalize on price swings. As the resolution date approaches, any material change in macroeconomic outlook or market sentiment could trigger rapid repricing, making this an active venue for short-term traders hedging or speculating on near-term moves.
