This market will resolve to "Up" if the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA (NYA) on Thursday, June 18, 2026 is higher than the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA (NYA) on Thursday, June 18, 2026 is lower than the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If NYA does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by NYSE Composite Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Prediction market odds and professional analyst forecasts operate on different timescales and methodologies. Analysts typically publish directional views based on fundamental research and multi-week outlooks, while this market aggregates real-time trader conviction about a single-day move. Market odds often incorporate intraday volatility expectations, overnight gaps, and breaking news that analysts may not immediately reflect. Comparing the two reveals whether the crowd is pricing in more bullish or bearish momentum than the consensus view, offering a complementary perspective on near-term index direction.
On Polymarket, traders set the odds through an automated market maker (AMM) model where buying or selling shares moves the price based on available liquidity. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome—NYA up or down—is represented as a separate tradable contract, and the sum of all outcome prices equals one dollar. As traders place orders, the probability curve adjusts in real time, ensuring the market remains responsive to new information and shifting sentiment about the index's direction on the settlement date.
This market resolves around Jun 18, 2026, once the trading day closes and the final NYA index level is confirmed. The outcome is determined by comparing the closing price on June 18 to the previous session's close; an up move resolves the bullish outcome, while a down move resolves the bearish outcome. Resolution is verified against credible public financial data sources to ensure accuracy and finality.
Key catalysts include Federal Reserve communications, inflation data, earnings surprises from major small-cap constituents, and broader equity market sentiment. Overnight international market moves, currency fluctuations, and sector-specific news—particularly in technology and industrials—often drive NYA volatility. Geopolitical developments, credit market stress, or unexpected economic data can shift trader positioning sharply in the final hours. Technical support and resistance levels, combined with options expiration activity, may also influence intraday momentum and final closing direction.
