This market will resolve to "Up" if the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA (NYA) on Thursday, July 9, 2026 is higher than the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA (NYA) on Thursday, July 9, 2026 is lower than the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If NYA does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by NYSE Composite Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Prediction market odds and traditional analyst forecasts operate on different methodologies. Market odds emerge from decentralized trader behavior and financial incentives, while analyst forecasts rely on fundamental research and econometric models. This market's odds represent aggregated bets from thousands of participants with real money at stake, whereas analyst consensus typically reflects a smaller group of credentialed experts. Both can offer valuable signals, but they weight information differently—markets often react faster to breaking news, while analysts may incorporate longer-term structural insights.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling binary outcome shares—one for NYA Up and one for NYA Down. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each outcome reflects its implied probability; if Up shares trade at 88 cents, that signals an 88% chance of an upward close. Liquidity and order flow determine spreads and slippage. Traders profit by correctly predicting the index direction, creating financial incentives that drive prices toward accurate forecasts as new information arrives.
This market resolves around Jul 9, 2026, once the NYSE American index close for that day is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by whether the NYA closes higher or lower than its previous close. No ambiguity exists in the resolution criteria—it is a straightforward directional comparison. Traders holding the winning outcome receive their payout automatically once the event is confirmed and the market is settled.
Major catalysts that could shift odds include macroeconomic data releases, Federal Reserve announcements, earnings surprises, geopolitical developments, and broad market sentiment shifts. Sector-specific news affecting small-cap and mid-cap stocks—which dominate the NYSE American—can also drive significant repricing. Intraday volatility, options expiration effects, and technical support or resistance levels may trigger rapid position adjustments. As the resolution date approaches, any unexpected economic reports or market dislocations could rapidly rebalance trader expectations and move this market's odds.
